Overview
We have an excellent opportunity for a legal Risk and Compliance Manager to support the Partners to enhance our processes, embed a compliance culture and reduce risk across all areas of the firm. The ideal candidate will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks that could impact the Firm's operations and reputation. This role requires a strong understanding of risk management and compliance standards, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
This is an exciting and varied role for a highly organised, proactive individual with excellent interpersonal and analytical skills. This is a full-time position based in Hartlepool or Wynyard with regular travel to each of our offices.
The role will involve monitoring risk and ensuring compliance across the firm in a variety of areas and will cover some or all of the following:
Duties
* Managing, reviewing and updating Office Manual policies, plans and procedures.
* Ensuring compliance with Lexcel and assisting with the annual re-accreditation process.
* Assisting the COLP in ensuring compliance with the SRA’s Standards and Regulations and other statutory obligations.
* Reviewing and analysing risk management data including complaints, claims, file reviews, client feedback, conflicts and breaches.
* Assisting the MLRO and MLCO in ensuring compliance with the Money Laundering Regulations.
* Assisting the Complaints Officer with complaints handling and monitoring.
* Assisting with collation of information to submit in support of the Professional Indemnity Insurance renewals.
* Assisting with data protection and health and safety compliance.
* Arranging/leading compliance training sessions.
* Handle risk & compliance queries from staff via central mailbox or phone.
* Support the new starter process, including regulatory questionnaires and liaising with central teams and department heads.
* Ensure new starters' details are updated with regulatory boards, relevant checks are conducted, and training is completed.
* Deliver Risk & Compliance induction sessions and ad-hoc training.
* Update central registers, including staff lists and internal breach logs.
* Stay updated on industry trends and emerging risks that may affect the organisation.
Experience
The successful candidate will have:
* Proven experience of working in a compliance role, preferably in the legal services sector.
* The ability to work collaboratively with the Partners and Heads of Department to monitor risk and ensure compliance.
* Excellent organisational and time management skills.
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels of the organisation and build supportive relationships.
* The ability to deal with confidential matters with discretion and tact.
* Excellent IT skills and knowledge.
* Excellent reporting skills.
Qualifications
* Ideally, you will be educated to degree level in a relevant area.
* An appropriate Risk Management qualification, e.g. Institute of Risk Management, Professional Certificate in Legal Risk Management, Risk and Compliance Accreditation, would be an advantage.
