Job Opportunity: Head of Estate Development
We are excited to offer a key leadership role at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as Head of Estate Development. This is a unique opportunity to shape and lead the estate and capital development agenda at a pivotal time for the organisation, as we work toward our vision of healthier communities and outstanding care for all.
In this role, you will lead a professional, multi-disciplinary team, ensuring that our estate remains safe, clean, secure, compliant, and future-proofed to support outstanding patient care. You will oversee the delivery of all capital and minor works schemes, land and property management, and space planning within the organisation.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Providing senior leadership and technical advice on estate development
2. Managing and guiding the team to deliver high-quality capital projects
3. Collaborating with both clinical and non-clinical leaders to support the Trust's objective
This role is fundamental to the success of our estate development agenda, and you will play a key role in shaping the future of the Trust. Person Specification
Knowledge Requirements
1. Highly developed negotiation and leadership skills
2. Proven line management experience with team leadership skills
3. Ability to demonstrate a proven track record in a similar role
4. Ability to provide expert advice on a range of related issues to senior management, clinicians, trust board and others
5. Detailed knowledge and experience of construction legislation including planning and compliance regulations
6. Extensive knowledge of project management methodologies and techniques for planning, monitoring, and controlling projects, including risk management
7. Detailed understanding of renewables and sustainable construction including BREEAM
8. Report writing skills
9. Highly customer focused/orientated
10. Highly developed communication skills whether written, verbal or electronic
11. Demonstrable problem solving capability with ability to maintain a flexible and collaborative approach
12. Excellent knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation procedures
13. Suitable IT skills i.e CAD, Microsoft office including Project, AutoCAD and BIM software knowledge and implementation experience
14. Good working knowledge of HTM's, HBN's and other NHS guidance
15. NEC4 and other contractual arrangements
Qualifications
1. Specialist professional knowledge via a Masters Degree or equivalent related to the construction industry
2. Managerial and senior experience on projects
3. In depth knowledge and experience of managerial, H&S and financial aspects of Capital Management
4. Membership of recognised professional institution relevant to the role such as RICS, CIOB, RIBA, APM, CIBSE, etc.
5. Evidence of continuing professional development
6. Highly motivated and capable of motivating others
7. Good communication and interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships
8. Continuing CPD
9. Previous knowledge of the NHS including the modernisation agenda
10. Health and Safety training and qualifications e.g NEBOSH certificate and/or construction safety
11. Qualification in a project management methodology such as PRINCE2 or a programme methodology such as MSP
12. Understanding of PROCURE23 or similar partnership working

1. Demonstrable relevant experience within a similar role
2. Extensive knowledge and experience of managing and delivering capital schemes
3. Effective and positive relationships with key stakeholders (internal and external)
4. Effective management of programmes and budget
5. Proven experience of managing internal and contractor teams
6. Delivering change management
7. Experience of estates property management
8. Experience involving the refurbishment and construction on NHS buildings
9. Experience of working with a Project Management Office
