Recovery Officer - Council Tax\n Oxford\n Temporary\n Full time\n Are you an experienced Council Tax Recovery Officer looking for your next opportunity? Oxford City Council is seeking a dedicated professional to join their Financial Services team on a temporary basis.\n THE ROLE\n As a Recovery Officer, you will be responsible for the collection of outstanding Council Tax and Business Rates, ensuring effective debt recovery and enforcement.\nContact customers who have fallen behind with payments and negotiate repayment plans\nProcess incoming data in line with legislation and council policies\nIdentify and escalate cases for legal enforcement or write-off where appropriate\nMaximise take-up of benefits, discounts, exemptions, and reliefs for eligible customers\nUse recovery systems and applications to support debt collection\nRefer suitable debtors to Advice Centres for additional support\nSupport service improvements and continuous development of the Revenues teamTHE CANDIDATE\n The successful candidate will have previous experience in a similar role, specifically within local authority Council Tax and Business Rates recovery.\nStrong negotiation skills to secure realistic repayment plans\nExperience in financial collection or debt recovery, particularly Council Tax and Business Rates\nAbility to manage a busy workload and meet targets while maintaining high service levels\nProficiency in Civica (Open Revenues) – experience with Civica Pay is not sufficient\nExcellent communication skills to explain legislation and recovery processes to customersTHE CONTRACT\nTemporary – 3 months\nThe pay range for the role is £20.43 to £23.00 per hour LTD company rate.
