Mechanical/ HVAC Design Engineer
We are assisting a regional construction outfit with their search for an experienced Design Engineer. In this role, the Design Engineer will assist in providing consistently high-quality Mechanical and Electrical installations to the Data Centre and Telecoms industries, as well as refurbishment of technical and office environments for ‘blue chip’ companies.
The Role:
As a Design Engineer, you will be responsible for interpreting and consulting on specifications regarding heating, ventilation, chilled water systems, air conditioning (HVAC), and plumbing systems. You will be required to confidently generate mechanical designs from scratch following site visits or information from site surveys, carry out initial designs, heat load calculations, and represent them in AutoCAD format along with scoping documents.
Working alongside a Senior Director, you will ensure the efficient and accurate organization, processing, and timely completion of Designs and tender returns. This role is not just a desk-bound appointment; it will also entail meeting clients, building relationships, and carrying out site visits as part of the Design and costing process.
Key Responsibilities Include:
1. Designing HVAC systems, including calculating heating and cooling needs, selecting appropriate equipment, and detailing system specifications.
2. Collaborating with other engineers, architects, and construction project managers to integrate and optimize HVAC systems in building designs.
3. Troubleshooting and resolving issues related to air quality, system inefficiencies, and mechanical malfunctions.
4. Staying updated with the latest technologies in climate control and implementing sustainable solutions.
With the support of the director, you will also be required to assist with Estimating and Surveying of jobs. These key responsibilities will include:
1. Obtaining a suitable number of competitive quotations and comparing them on a like-for-like basis.
2. Ensuring that tenders consider health and safety, quality and environmental legislation, as well as compliance with the main contractor's policies and procedures.
3. Seeking value engineering & advantage through the tender process.
4. Arranging site surveys with clients and booking these in via individual diaries.
5. Sending out quote requests and chasing supplier quotes.
Requirements and Skills:
1. 5+ years’ experience in HVAC/Mechanical Design.
2. HNC/HND/BEng in Mechanical Engineering or demonstrated equivalent experience.
3. Must have experience within the HVAC market sector.
4. Excellent knowledge of the M&E industry.
5. The ability to work with and explain complex technical drawings in a clear manner.
6. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
7. Excellent time management and planning skills.
8. Commercial awareness and interpersonal skills, particularly in negotiating.
9. Ability to cope with pressure and adapt to situations.
10. Proficiency in AutoCAD.
11. Strong IT skills, especially in Microsoft Office.
12. Self-starter and able to work autonomously.
