We have an exciting opportunity for the right candidate looking to take a leadership role as the Programme Director for the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Coventry University and the University of Warwick.
The Doctorate in Clinical Psychology is a joint collaboration between Coventry University, the University of Warwick, Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust (CWPT), other NHS providers and NHS England. The Coventry University and University of Warwick DClinPsy is highly rated by the trainees who benefit from the robust partnerships with our clinical practice teams.
This is a joint appointment and the post holder will be employed by Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Partnership Trust (CWPT) and seconded to Coventry University, supporting the successful candidate to build strong professional and clinical links whilst focussing on the leadership of the Clinical Psychology programme. There may also be potential for the candidate to maintain clinical practice in their area of expertise one day a week with one of the local NHS provider Trusts alongside the 0.8wte Programme Director role.
This is a part-time role of 30 hours per week (0.8 wte).
Main duties of the job
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Clinical Psychologist to join the dynamic team and drive the development and delivery of the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology programme. The successful candidate will be expected to have the required clinical, professional and strategic leadership experience and knowledge to be able to work at Consultant Clinical Psychologist level, alongside a passion and extensive experience in providing training and education in Clinical Psychology.
We recognise that not all suitable candidates may have recent or extensive experience of senior leadership within a Clinical Psychology Doctoral programme and welcome conversations from those with extensive NHS clinical psychology leadership experience with transferable skills. You will be provided with support from within the School of Health and Care to apply your extensive experience in a new setting.

Job responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide strategic leadership and operational management of the programme, contributing to long-term planning and maintaining high standards in teaching, research, and clinical training.
2. Oversee the clinical experience aspect of the postgraduate programme, including management of training contracts, placement allocations, quality monitoring, and supervisor training.
3. Collaborate with clinical tutors to enhance trainee experiences and support their development.
4. Engage in research supervision for doctoral trainees and contribute to teaching based on your areas of expertise.
5. Ensure the programme meets accreditation standards and quality assurance criteria in line with HCPC, BPS, and NHS guidelines.
6. Manage and appraise academic teams and allocate resources to meet growth and performance targets.
7. Lead curriculum development including the development of the Clinical Associate in Psychology apprenticeship.
8. Build partnerships with local NHS services and other stakeholders to ensure high-quality clinical training.
9. Oversee the contract with NHS England ensuring that systematic processes are in place to deliver the KPIs associated with the contract.
Candidate Requirements:
1. Hold a DClinPsy or equivalent qualification and be HCPC registered as a Practitioner Psychologist (Clinical Psychologist).
2. Minimum of five years of post-qualification experience, with a passion for training and education in clinical psychology.
3. Experience in teaching on and managing clinical psychology training programmes or leadership roles in NHS/clinical settings.
4. Proven ability to manage teams, develop curriculum, and lead on quality assurance in education and clinical practice.
5. A strong publication track record and evidence of research impact is desirable.
6. Experience in promoting Equality, Diversity, and Inclusivity (EDI) within clinical psychology training is highly valued.

Qualifications
Essential
* Registration with the HCPC in Clinical Psychology.
* PhD plus experience in relevant subject area or equivalent level of professional experience with postgraduate qualification in relevant subject.
* Recognition as a Senior or Principal Fellow within the UK Professional Standards Framework for Higher Education, or a suitable professional body.
* Membership at senior level of national or international academic bodies or other professional organisations.

* Extensive teaching experience at Doctoral level and proven record in delivering high level of student experience and outcomes.
* Extensive experience of successful innovation, course development and/or clinical service transformation.
* Extensive experience of developing, supervising and mentoring others.
* Extensive post qualification experience of working with a range of service users, presenting a range of clinical severity and of delivering highly specialist psychological services.
* Extensive experience of consultation and providing advice to a range of others regarding psychological practice.
* Experience of delivering services to achieve targets, KPIs, commissioning/contractual agreements and national guidance.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
* Knowledge of the theory and practice of highly specialist assessment methods and therapeutic approaches in the relevant service area.
* Excellent organisational and team management and leadership skills, including the line management of staff and dealing with staffing issues.
* Ability to relate to a range of people from diverse backgrounds, ages, experience and needs as users of services, students and stakeholders.
* High level of proficiency in ICT and understanding its application to teaching, learning and research.
* Proven clinical supervision and staff development skills.
* Knowledge of the higher education landscape, current challenges and opportunities.
