LOCUM CONSULTANT IN PAEDIATRIC RHEUMATOLOGY AND CHRONIC PAIN
Full-time post (PA) as consultant in paediatric rheumatology and chronic pain is available now at the Oxford University Hospitals based at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and Oxford Children’s Hospital. This will be a month fixed-term contract.
This is a locum post for sickness cover. The post will join the current consultant team of Paediatric Rheumatology consultants and a well-established clinical team working in the key areas of Paediatric Rheumatology and Chronic Pain.
This appointment is on a full-time basis.
Main Duties of the Job
Applications are invited to apply for the above post for the Department of Paediatric Rheumatology at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust.
The post-holder will join a well-established multidisciplinary team, providing a comprehensive paediatric rheumatology and chronic pain service for the Thames Valley and surrounding region. The appointee will have the opportunity to work closely with consultants and allied professionals from the Children’s Hospital Oxford, as well as a number of other DGH’s throughout the region. There are close links with the adult rheumatology service. The appointee will also be part of the regional Chronic Pain service providing a comprehensive outpatient and intensive day case service to young people and families from across the region and beyond.
We are looking for innovative and enthusiastic Consultants with appropriate clinical and leadership abilities. The post holder will be fully supported by a busy and friendly department and will be encouraged to take part in research and academic development. Close links to the University of Oxford provide an excellent opportunity to develop research interests in a variety of areas.

Oxford Paediatric Adolescent Rheumatology Centre (OxPARC) is a nationally recognised specialised paediatric rheumatology service, providing a secondary care service for much of Thames Valley and the tertiary referral centre for Northern South Central and neighbouring areas. The emphasis is on one-stop clinics with a full multidisciplinary team including ophthalmology.
Oxford provides a comprehensive service for chronic pain (OXCYPP) with multiprofessional outpatient assessment and inpatient rehabilitation programme.
Additional services include: a highly specialised skeletal dysplasia service offers genetic, orthopaedic and expert radiology assessment for diagnosis and management of rare skeletal dysplasias; combined rheumatology, infectious disease and immunology clinic for assessment and management of autoinflammatory conditions.
There is a strong multidisciplinary team working across all areas of the service. The service has expanded with the appointment of new staff across all areas following a successful business case for WTE members of staff. This post will expand the consultant team. Members of the team have specific areas of interest including inflammatory disease, chronic pain and sports medicine. There are plans to develop the Chronic Pain Service and collaborate with chronic fatigue and long COVID services.
