We are establishing the data governance team in order drive the implementation of our data governance strategy. As Senior Data Governance Manager, you will play a crucial role in the implementation and operation of the BBC's data governance framework within the data platform and across data domains. Key areas of focus, responsibility and contribution will be the data platform governance framework design and implementation, monitoring access to the data platform and data via usage agreements Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities You will play an influential role helping to shape and implement data platform governance at the BBC. You will work closely with data engineers, data architects, data product owners and other stakeholders to ensure the smooth integration of data governance capabilities and services delivering the best data governance experience to our stakeholders and colleagues. You will also provide support to implement the evolving data governance framework enterprise wide. Specifically, you will be responsible for these activities: Support the data governance lead to effectively drive the successful implementation of platform data governance initiatives across the BBC Work with Platform Engineering and Architecture to establish platform data governance, collaborating with data owners, stewards and custodians to develop, document, maintain and enforce the data platform governance framework Work to support broader data initiatives that support the implementation of the data governance framework across the BBC Engagement of business stakeholders across multiple domains on implementing and assuring data governance and data management best practice Drive and own data governance initiatives as part of data domain squads comprising experts across the data domain, data governance and related forums to ensure data ownership and the adherence to data governance policies Ensure technology solutions meet predefined objectives and present a clear understanding of the effect on data design and data governance Develop monitoring and measuring capabilities to be used by data role holders and data governance teams to track and report effectiveness of data governance initiatives Work closely with business stakeholders and data owners and stewards to identify critical data assets and drive the implementation of data governance and data management controls across these critical assets Support in orchestrating forums and managing ownership structures to address data governance issues effectively Support data role holders, including data engineers and SMEs in interpreting policies to guide data governance practices, ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements Stay informed about market trends and emerging technologies in data governance, providing valuable insights and actively contributing to data governance innovation across the BBC Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience Key Skills 5 years of proven expertise in delivering platform data governance in complex organisations Understands data architecture concepts and has worked with data architects and engineers to ensure robust governance over data platforms Understands both technical and organisational governance within a data platform medallion layer Experience of implementing usage agreements and tagging data to deliver platform data governance Familiarity with applying data governance rules and polices within a data platform Experience in governing and handling sensitive data including personal information Experience and/or knowledge of data regulations such as GDPR Experience in working with cloud-based data platforms e.g. Redshift, Snowflake Strong track record in supporting the implementation of data governance and management initiatives Demonstrated understanding of data governance concepts, best practices and industry trends, Possess an aptitude for analysis and working knowledge of developing and implementing data governance key metrics and dashboards, Familiarity with data governance technologies, tools, and standards e.g. Alation, Collibra; Soda, Great Expectations, DBT Proficiency in collaborating with cross-functional teams and business stakeholders to drive improvements in establishing data governance frameworks Excellent communication skills and a strong track record in building lasting and positive relationships that have supported the successful delivery of data governance initiatives Highly Regarded Skills Experience of using Immuta or other similar software Knowledge and experience of implementing Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and Attribute-Based Access Control (ABAC) Proficiency in complex dataset management and high-level programming languages such as SQL (desirable but not essential) Data visualisation tools (Power BI, Tableau or similar) About the BBC The BBC is committed to redeploying employees seeking suitable alternative employment within the BBC for different reasons and they will be given priority consideration ahead of other applicants.
