Experience
Essential criteria
* To have developed an expertise in one or more specialised clinical areas.
* To have a thorough knowledge of laboratory genetic technologies and medicine, quality assurance and quality management.
* Able to perform risk assessments and resolve issues or investigate complaints relating to the service as part of Clinical Governance.
* Fully conversant with COSHH regulations and their application to laboratories.
* To have a thorough knowledge of PC packages for word processing, presentations, spreadsheets and databases.
* To have a good knowledge of managerial processes within the Trust and NHS.
* Experience of membership of committees within department.
* Experience of leadership of small groups.
* Involvement in service planning and development and knowledge of quality management and accreditation systems.
* Experience of teaching students, laboratory and medical staff in formal and informal settings.
* Experience of line management of groups of scientific areas.
* Experience of working with patient groups.

Essential criteria
* Must have a flexible approach to meet the demands of the service including working outside of core hours if required.
* Able to maintain self-control in difficult and challenging situations and to take control of situations where more junior staff are in difficulty.
* Self-confidence with good interpersonal skills.
Training and Qualification
Essential criteria
* Registered HCPC qualified clinical or biomedical scientist.
* First Degree in science subject with higher specialist training.
* PhD or equivalent experience.
* Up to date awareness of national policies affecting the NHS and Genetic Testing.
* In-depth knowledge of governance and risk management.
* Fellowship by Examination of the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath).
* Demonstration of Continuing Professional Development.
Desirable criteria
* Management Qualification or equivalent level of experience.

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part-time workers.

The system will provide us with an outcome of your check which will be stored securely on your personal file along with all other pre-employment check documentation.

* Transfer of information: If I have previous NHS service - I consent to the transfer of my Electronic Staff Record (ESR) data between this and other NHS Trusts. I also consent to the Occupational Health Department confidentially accessing my occupational health records from my current or previous employer in order to check the status of my vaccinations, immunisations and screening tests as relevant to the post.
