Probation Period
There is a probation period of six (3) months from the 1st day of start. During this period, the officer shall have monthly reviews from the security manager / Area Manager to discuss successes and work on improvements.
A suit will be provided as uniform once the officer passes their probation. This consists of a personal choice of two blue suits (either 3, 2-piece single or double breasted), 3 shirts (either blue, white, or pink), and 2 ties with a pocket handkerchief to match. Until this is issued, the officer is welcome to wear their own suits of suitable business color and style.
During this period, should the officer not be suitable for the role, they may be asked for an immediate transfer to another site. All other Mitie disciplinary and grievance policies will be in place. Should the officer find the role unsuitable, they have the right to request a transfer.
Shift Pattern
Ofcom has a shift pattern of 07:00 to 19:00 Monday to Friday, totaling 60 hours a week. Occasionally, you may be required to start earlier or work later depending on client needs. If any weekend work is required, it will be payable as overtime.
Job Role
The Security Officer will play a team role not only within the security team but will also be an integral part of the Ofcom facilities team and will be expected to support with some facilities functions as necessary. Positive stakeholder engagement will play an important part of the role.
They will report directly to the Mitie area security manager, security manager for the contract, and contract manager. This will also include the upward chain of command to Mitie Regional Director as well as Ofcom's Senior Facilities Management team and escalation further if necessary.
The Security Officer will be highly trained to step up when needed and shall be committed to providing the best possible service to all Ofcom colleagues at all levels, visitors, and contractors at all times.
Good communication and telephone skills are required. They will need to be flexible and willing to travel, as this role may encompass Ofcom's national regions including Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast, Manchester, Warrington, Baldock, Birmingham, and London, with any expenses incurred to be claimed in line with the policy.
This may also include completing security audits for those sites, either solo or accompanied by the security supervisor, manager, or Ofcom colleagues. The Security Officer will be expected to gain good working knowledge in Ofcom systems, becoming proficient in processes and protocols including but not limited to physical security, business continuity, fire evacuation, matrix resource booking, service now ticketing system, access control passes, and have detailed knowledge of site assignment instructions for Warrington.
To gain working knowledge and become proficient in any future systems or processes.
To have good working knowledge and become proficient in Word, Outlook, Excel, Microsoft Teams, and any other IT skills related to the role.
To set a high standard of dress code and demeanor: immaculate clean suit and tie, polished shoes, clean pressed shirt, well-groomed.
To ensure patrols are completed correctly and in a timely fashion.
To ensure guests and VIPs are escorted when necessary.
To liaise with contractors and forward any issues to the relevant managers.
To complete monthly security and first aid audits, with reports forwarded to the relevant people in a timely manner.
To comply with any other reasonable request from the security manager or Ofcom colleague. As the role at Ofcom is diverse from the normal security role, the officer is expected to be flexible and versatile. This may include but is not limited to tasks such as moving light furniture, dealing with post and packages, liaising with other tenants in the building, and managing agents where required.
Training
* Fully and satisfactorily complete all required competency training.
* Undertake additional training to ensure continuous self-development as directed by the Security Account Manager.
* Use technology to achieve key work objectives and develop job knowledge and expertise through continual professional development.
* Ensure you renew your license 16 weeks before expiry.
Security and Health & Safety
* Look out for and immediately report any Health & Safety hazards or potential hazards on site.
* Stay alert to any threats or changes within the work environment to take appropriate action to reduce the chance of disruption, loss, or damage.
* Use common sense and initiative by immediately involving others if a situation appears to become threatening.
* Maintain professional conduct in the face of difficult situations and challenging customers.
* Complete an accurate, detailed notebook entry as soon as possible after any incident, which can then be used as part of the Incident Report process.
* Keep to schedules and demonstrate commitment to Mitie and the Client.
* Ensure check calls are being carried out at the allocated time slot as stipulated in the Assignment Instructions (AI's).
* Call emergency services and the Communication Centre to report all incidents.
