We are currently recruiting a Class 1 / 2 driver to work part of our Inventory Operations & Supply team. The Inventory Operations & Supply team provides warehousing, storage and distribution of materials and critical equipment across the entire business.
Operating on a 24/7 -365 basis the Inventory Operations and Supply Management are the custodians of materials and critical assets and Vehicles at distribution centres and distribution hubs across the Thames Water region.
As part of the Inventory Operations and Supply Management team you will be required to provide safe custody and real time visibility of our stock holdings which are then prepared for despatch in line with agreed customer service levels.
Acting as an Ambassador, your role is to support the Inventory Operations and Supply team in the safe, efficient and cost-effective delivery of Inventory and logistics solutions to the business through the driving and operating of a range of vehicles. These include articulated vehicles, 26T Curtain Sider with Moffett, and/or flat bed, 12t; 10t and 7.5t vehicles also operation of HIAB (VMC) vehicles from 7.5t up to 32t vehicles, various vans and other combinations.
What you’ll be doing as a HGV Driver
Within this role, we require either a Class 1 or Class 2 Driver. The role responsibilities will be the same, but the salary will differ depending on the Class of HGV you are able to drive.
- Maintain a clean and compliant vehicle.
- Drive and operate heavy goods vehicles, secure parking of your vehicle, complete and record pre and post vehicle checks in line with legislative and company-specific requirements.
- Record and manage vehicle defects through to repairs completed.
- Ensure you have completed the appropriate training to use any vehicle prior to taking, using or operating it.
- Oversee the safe and secure loading and unloading of vehicles.
- Comply with transport legislation, including drivers’ hours' regulations and Working Time Directive in line with the ‘O’ license legislation and company procedures.
- Adopt a safe and fuel-efficient approach to driving to minimise the risk to you, other road users, and to optimise vehicle running costs.
- Deliver all duties in line with agreed service levels.
- Undertake periodic driver assessments and relevant refresher training.
Hours – Working 45 hours per week on a shift pattern.
Location – Didcot Distribution Centre, Didcot, OX11 7AW
What you should bring to the role
- Hold a Full valid UK Class 1 or 2 licence, with no more than 6 penalty points and no DR or IN convictions
- A full driver CPC and a valid Driver Tachograph card
- Knowledge of driving and operating HIAB and MHE
- Demonstrable knowledge of Transport law and Road Traffic Act
- A working knowledge of Drivers Hours ‘rules and Working Time regulations
- Excellent driving skills and road safety knowledge
- Committed and enthusiastic approach to delivering excellent customer service
- Excellent communication skills
- Able to work on your own and organise your workload, or as part of a team
- The ability to read and complete paperwork accurately, including basic numeracy
- Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
