Chemistry Senior Laboratory Technician
Full Time - 6 weeks
£21.65 per hour - Inside IR35 - Umbrella Rate
Based in Coventry
Role Responsibilities:
1. Preparing samples such as instrument calibration samples and test samples from battery cell components, using fume hoods, glovebox, calibrated pipettes, balances, and microwave digester.
2. Operating the GC-MS; previous experience in this is essential.
3. Supporting the Chemist to maintain a safe and productive workflow of analytical samples through the laboratory, familiar with safety documentation such as COSHH and risk assessments, ensuring adherence to all procedures and safety instructions.
4. Using workflow and instrument software, creating and maintaining accurate records of analysis, and writing basic reports if needed, using PowerPoint and Excel.
5. Opportunity for training to use other equipment such as ICP-OES, TGA, DSC, XRD, or XPS for the right candidate.
Skills Required:
1. Practical chemistry techniques such as analytical balances, pipettes, and sample preparation.
2. Operation of Gas-chromatography - Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) instrument.
3. Computer literate - Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
Experience Required:
1. HND or Degree in Chemistry, related science, or laboratory experience.
2. High-level qualifications not essential for the right candidate; practical experience is more necessary.
3. Ability to prepare liquid samples for analysis safely.
4. Ideally able to interrogate and analyze chromatograms and identify issues.
5. Operation of ICP-OES, TGA, or DSC instruments would be useful.
