Role Overview:
As a Senior Building Surveyor, you will take the lead on a diverse range of projects in the commercial sector, providing expert advice and high-level surveying services. You will be responsible for managing and delivering projects, overseeing junior team members, and ensuring that the company’s standards of quality and service are maintained. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to develop client relationships, while contributing to the overall growth of the company.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and manage building surveying projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
* Conduct a wide range of surveys, including condition surveys, dilapidation assessments, defect investigations, and technical appraisals.
* Prepare and review reports, schedules of work, specifications, and other documentation.
* Advise clients on the design, construction, maintenance, and refurbishment of properties and sites.
* Oversee and mentor junior team members, providing guidance and support for their professional development.
* Liaise with clients, contractors, and other professionals to ensure the successful delivery of projects.
* Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including health and safety, building regulations, and planning requirements.
* Participate in business development activities, identifying new opportunities and helping to expand the firm’s client base.
* Act as the point of contact for clients, providing technical expertise and building strong working relationships.
* Contribute to the preparation of fee proposals and tender documents.
* Maintain a high level of professionalism and client service, ensuring the company’s reputation for quality is upheld.
Requirements:
* MRICS (Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) accreditation is essential.
* A minimum of 5 years' experience in building surveying, with a strong background in a variety of project types, including commercial, residential, and heritage.
* Expertise in conducting and preparing surveys, defect diagnosis, dilapidations, and building condition reports.
* Proficient in contract administration, project management, and dealing with client expectations.
* Strong understanding of relevant legislation, including building regulations, CDM, party wall, and health & safety.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise reports and documentation.
* Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive and solution-focused approach.
* A client-focused attitude and the ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.
* Experience with AutoCAD and other relevant surveying software is advantageous.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
* Experience in the management and supervision of junior staff or apprentices.
* Knowledge and experience in heritage building surveying would be advantageous.
* Experience in business development and assisting in growing a client base.
