As a prison officer, you will be part of a diverse team, making an impact and doing meaningful work in our prisons. Working in a prison is fast-paced and varied, and no two days are the same. You will work with a range of people and perform a variety of tasks – from keeping the prison safe and secure, to helping vulnerable people through a difficult time in their lives. Prison officers protect the public and help make an impact on prisoners' lives. To become a prison officer, you will need to:
1. be at least 18 years old at the point you commence employment
2. meet the Civil Service Nationality requirements
3. pass a medical and fitness assessment as part of the application process
4. meet the required eyesight standard in both eyes (both with and without corrective lenses)
5. have a suitable standard of hearing (without the use of hearing aids)
Additional requirements include:
1. Whilst tattoos are permitted, they must not be deemed as offensive, discriminatory, violent, or intimidating. Facial tattoos are generally not acceptable, except for cultural, religious, or medical reasons.
2. To work at HMP Whitemoor, you must have been a UK resident for 3 years.

Eligibility
You can apply for a role via the Advance into Justice scheme if you are:
1. a veteran of the Armed Forces
2. an Armed Forces service leaver within your resettlement period and due to leave the services within 18 months
3. a spouse or civil partner of an Armed Forces service leaver or veteran (your current partner must either be still serving or have been discharged within the last 12 months)
