Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
Are you a qualified Mental Health Nurse or a Social Worker/Occupational Therapist with post qualifying experience in Mental Health? Are you interested in working within a general hospital environment, providing specialist assessment and treatment for patients with both physical and mental health needs? Psychiatric Liaison may be the team for you.
If you have ever thought about working in Mental Health Liaison, but not applied previously because you were worried about the shift patterns and the impact on home life, then please make contact. We know that people will often have a number of commitments that mean they are not able to work shifts across a 24 hour period. We want to hear from you if you are limited in the working hours you can offer, to make contact to discuss this and see whether we can agree a pattern that meets both your needs and those of the Liaison team.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a daytime practitioner with some occasional weekend required. We now offer a liaison service to not only the Emergency Department, but specialist assessment and guidance throughout all wards on both inpatient units. We are a friendly, multi-disciplinary core team of professionals including Dual Qualified Nurses, Mental Health Nurses, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Psychiatrists, and administrators. Clinical presentations of the patients we support span a wide spectrum from organic disorders, psychosis, self-harm, severe depression or somatoform disorder to adjustment reactions, delirium, dementia, and abnormal health behaviour. One of the most challenging and fascinating parts of the Liaison Practitioner role is that every day is completely different to the previous. It can sometimes be fast paced and unpredictable, but never boring. We are a close, funny, and supportive team with opportunities for learning and development. We undertake monthly team supervision as well as regular twice monthly teaching sessions facilitated by different members of the team. Previous experience of working in mental health setting would be required, however the most important requirement is that you have the commitment to support with the ongoing expansion and development of the Liaison service and a passion for working with individuals in a recovery focussed model.
