This is a time of significant change for the Social Work Service in Dumfries & Galloway and the Health & Social Care Sector generally. This post offers real opportunities to contribute to service delivery and development within Adult Services on a single and multi-agency/disciplinary basis. You will be based in Dumfries and will work within the Mental Health Team which falls under the wider remit of the authority.
Your primary responsibility will be to assess the needs and risks of/to service users in the community or hospital. This is done in conjunction with service users, their families &/or carers and partner agencies including health and police. Knowledge of community services for adults in the statutory, third and independent sectors would be beneficial.
You will be expected to practice using protective legislation, in particular the Adult Support & Protection (Scotland) Act in addition to Community Care legislation. A good working knowledge of Self-Directed Support is essential.
You will need to have excellent communication, assessment, IT skills, case management, analytical and co-ordination skills and be able to work under your own initiative and prioritise accordingly. You should have a good ability to complete assessments of need and risk and be able to prepare plans that flow from these within time frameworks. You will be committed to evidence based practice and will receive good support, regular supervision and opportunities for development.
Experience of working in a health or social services setting is essential and a good working knowledge of the Mosaic system is desirable. Experience of assessment and care management is desirable, as well as an SVQ Level 4 or equivalent in Health and Social Care.
A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post and you will be expected to use Dumfries and Galloway Pool cars for any travelling required. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011 preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
