Bangor University School of Health Sciences is offering an exciting opportunity for a Children’s Nursing Lecturer to join our team committed to the delivery of high quality, evidence informed academic children and young people’s nursing programmes. Candidates will have current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council in the child field (RCN 8). The successful candidate will have a Degree in a relevant subject area.
The School of Health Sciences is an interprofessional school which sits within the College of Medicine and Health and provides health and care education and research at Bangor University. The School works in partnership with health, social and educational care providers through well established links to enable a total clinical and academic experience to be provided for children’s nursing students. The School offers a career-spanning portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and short courses for health and care and allied professionals. We hold an Athena Swan Bronze award in recognition of our commitment to and progress towards gender equality within the University's policies, practices, and culture.

The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable for this post; support is available to learn Welsh for any successful candidate who is not a Welsh speaker.
This post is available on our teaching and scholarship career track. Here at the School of Health Sciences, we value the partnership we have with students. The School offers a supportive culture for less experienced lecturers to develop their potential and you will be provided with an academic mentor. The successful candidate will have opportunities to contribute to teaching and learning across the School’s portfolio, including in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
This role will be located on campus at Bangor. Through our Dynamic Working framework, there will also be the option to spend some time working remotely (although remaining in the UK) to support work life balance, which will be discussed further with candidates at interview.

Purpose of the Job
• To teach children’s nursing at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including supervision of students as they complete formative and summative assessments.
• To develop ways of teaching to include blended and in person approaches, teaching materials and assessment.
• To support module and course design, assessments and develop skills for module co-ordination and module leadership.
• To provide the highest quality pastoral and academic support to children’s nursing undergraduate and postgraduate students.
• To undertake administrative duties as designated by the Head of School to engage in School citizenship and personal development.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching duties will include:
• Plan, prepare and deliver lectures and tutorials responding effectively to a variety of student backgrounds, learning styles and class sizes.
• Motivate students to proactive engagement in learning and provide meaningful and constructive feedback on the quality of their work.
• Keep abreast of new professional, educational and related social, economic and technological developments in children’s nursing.
• Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate projects.
• Be personal tutor to a number of undergraduate (and postgraduate students), providing the highest quality, consistent, advice, guidance and support.
• Contribute to the development of new programmes and undertake the role of module coordinator or contributing to module co-ordination.
• Maintain and develop Scholarly activities in line with University and College strategies.
• Publish and share evidence of scholarship related to learning and teaching in books, articles and/or papers in academic journals.
• Ensure adherence to organisational and professional body (i.e. NMC) requirements in all aspects of academic work, and in personal professional development.
• Engage in scholarly, professional and improvement-related activities around children’s nursing and nursing education in partnership with students, local stakeholders and service users.
• Contribute to the growth and improvement of the practice learning circuit capacity and quality, and support students’ learning in practice.
• Actively engage in strategic and project-related activities that maximise student engagement, and that mitigate the risks of attrition.
• Lead the development of new modules, and the re-design and improvement of existing modules.
Administrative and Wider Contribution duties will include:
• Participate in the student recruitment and induction procedures for the School (e.g. School and University Open Days).
• Contribute to the School's management and participate in the administration of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes (e.g. organisation of exams, contribute to accreditation/QA procedures (if module co-ordinator).
• Contribute to the marketing of programmes by participating in School and College link activities and other marketing initiatives.
• Undertake other administrative duties and responsibilities as directed by the Head of School (e.g. membership of School boards and task groups, addressing/supporting undergraduate and postgraduate student experience, contributing to community engagement).
Person Specification
Qualifications/Training
• Degree in a relevant subject area.
• Professional registration (on the appropriate part of the register) with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
• PGCertHE teaching qualification or equivalent.
Experience/Knowledge - Teaching
• A sound knowledge of contemporary policy and practice in nursing and healthcare.
• Evidence of teaching in clinical or academic settings.
• Experience of teaching with evidence of successful student learning outcomes.
• To develop evidence of good / innovative pedagogic practice.
• Experience of module development and delivery in higher education.
• Experience of supervising undergraduate and postgraduate projects.
Skills/Abilities
• Demonstrate the ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and on own initiative.
• Excellent verbal and written skills.
• Demonstrable computer skills, including MS Office, PowerPoint, Excel. This could also include use of Blackboard and other on-line learning platforms.
