Job Description This is a senior leadership role responsible for shaping and executing the company’s procurement strategy to drive cost and cash efficiencies, mitigate risk and drive sustainability efforts in the Goods and Services Not for Resale supply chains whilst providing functional leadership to the WBA International Segment Procurement team. The Director of Procurement will collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business growth, customer satisfaction and long-term value creation and has commercial decision-making accountability for all third party supplier arrangements exceeding $500,000 with delegated authority from the WBA Group, Chief Procurement Officer up to $10M ($1M for Consulting engagements). Job Responsibilities • Procurement Strategy & Leadership – In collaboration with key stakeholders, ensure the Procurement functional strategy, capabilities and goals align with Boots & No7’s strategic goals. • Stakeholder Collaboration – ensure Procurement remains focused on the things that matter to the business and it’s ability to perform to the best interests of our various stakeholders. • People & Team Development – Lead, develop, coach and inspire the Procurement team to continuously raise the bar for performance and delivery to our customers (internally and externally). Beyond the Procurement team, raise awareness of related matters and support Supplier Management and Contract Management efforts as required to get the best possible outcomes for Boots / WBA. • Cost & Cash - Project Pipeline Management - create and continuously refine an annual pipeline of projects that identify and then deliver upon opportunities to save the business costs or deliver more value from the investments we make whilst preserving working capital to the greatest extent possible through payment terms / schedule. • Category Management – ensure the category aligned teams within Procurement are enabling their stakeholders to obtain the best possible value from available suppliers and continuing to identify and engage with the relevant supplier markets, peers and other external sources to bring credible external ideas to fruition for the business. • Risk & Compliance – own and maintain key policies and procedures related to Procurement activities and ensure the Procurement team works with all parties required to identify, record and mitigate risks as they arise. Support and act upon Audits as they arise. • ESG (carbon and waste focus) – continuously raise the team and wider organisation’s awareness of ESG matters particularly as they can be impacted by 3rd party suppliers and the choices we make in specifying products and services. Specific focus is needed to support the WBA efforts to reduce Carbon emissions and waste generated from our business operations. • Commercial Leadership – act as a commercial sounding board to the whole business, providing challenge and guidance to the teams as they seek to establish new or renewed agreements or exit existing agreements. Capabilities Required • Experience of leadership of a Procurement team or similar function; preferably within a complex retail multi-category environment. • Ability to shape and evolve functional strategy to continue to offer best possible value to the business. • Commercial Acumen in a complex environment: Strong financial and contractual acumen with a demonstrable ability to manage an array of large and complex commercial arrangements whilst ensuring focus on the large and complex is not to the detriment of necessary day to day activities of a Procurement team. • Demonstrable ability to coach and motivate a team of professionals at varying stages of their careers to perform to the best of their abilities and continue to grow their capabilities.
