Job Description:
About The Role
On-Call Firefighters are a crucial part of the Fire Service - they provide an efficient and effective emergency service to the community of Staffordshire.
What is an On-Call Firefighter?
On-Call Firefighters provide emergency response cover from either their home or work base. To be eligible to apply, you need to live or work close to a fire station; all applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
After their initial training course, On-Call Firefighters attend weekly drill nights to ensure they maintain their skills. There are also many opportunities for additional training throughout the year. Besides responding to emergencies, On-Call Firefighters can participate in community fire safety initiatives, including safe & well visits and school visits.
Find out if being a Firefighter might be the right career for you.
This self-assessment test will help you determine if your perception of what is needed to be a Firefighter is correct. If you answer 'yes' to all questions, then perhaps this career is suitable for you!

Self Assessment Test
* Would you like to be part of a profession where you can put your life skills into action every day?
* Would you like to work as part of a team?
* Would you like to work in the community, meeting new people, facing new situations, and taking on new challenges?
* Are you willing to work nights, evenings, weekends, and public holidays, including Christmas and New Year?
* Are you prepared to work outdoors in cold, hazardous conditions for extended periods both day and night?
* Are you mentally strong enough to handle highly stressful situations positively and professionally, helping people in distress and providing first aid?
To become an On-Call Firefighter, you must:
* Live or work within five minutes of your local fire station to respond immediately. Check with your local station for boundary details and visit to see if you qualify.
* Many On-Call Firefighters are employed full-time and have agreements to leave work when called out. Others serve during nights or weekends. The service also appeals to unemployed individuals.
As an On-Call Firefighter, you will play a vital role in Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and receive the same respect and job satisfaction as full-time Firefighters.
Key Requirements
* Have a genuine desire to support your local community
* Be enthusiastic and willing to work in a team
* Maintain a good level of physical fitness
You will also need to agree on your availability with the local Station Manager, which requires visiting your nearest station, preferably on drill nights.
