A progressive Secondary School in the centre of Newcastle is seeking a competent Graduate Maths Tutor to work with their Foundation GCSE Maths students, to boost their confidence and understanding of GCSE Level Mathematical concepts. The Graduate Maths Tutor role involves working between two small, community-centred Secondary Schools in the centre of Newcastle, spending 3 full days at one, and 2 full days at the other per week. The school has undergone a transformation in the last couple of years since being taken over by a prominent Trust, and are deploying a Graduate Maths Tutor to build academic resilience and inspire a passion for learning among their students. As a Graduate Maths Tutor, you will be working with groups of 1-3 Foundation GCSE students in 30 minute sessions, covering lesson content slowly and simply to convey Foundation concepts. Character specification of Graduate Maths Tutor: Graduate with a 2.1 or above in Mathematics, or a Maths-related subject (essential) Experience as a tutor or teacher previously (desirable) Strong subject knowledge and confident in their Mathematical understanding Ability to break down GCSE Level concepts effectively into simplified elements Understanding of Foundation GCSE Level Maths topics Patient and calm persona Ability to re-phrase and change approach to content for students struggling to grasp concepts Job specification of Graduate Maths Tutor: Long-term, full-time role lasting for at least the remainder of the academic year Mon-Fri 8.30-4pm (possibility for slight flexibility in these hours if needed) Work with Foundation Level GCSE Students (Grades 4-5, aged 14-16) Run 30 minute sessions with 1-3 students at a time Break down key concepts slowly into simplified chunks Boost student confidence and understanding to help facilitate them achieving a Grade 4 or 5 in their final GCSEs This friendly, well-staffed Secondary School has excellent transport links - perfect for drivers, but also on the Newcastle Metro Line with other public-transport links located nearby.
