Are you an experienced operations leader with a solid background in shipping and port operations? A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Port Operations Manager
to join a high-performing terminal operation in Hull, responsible for delivering safe, efficient, and customer-focused port services.
This role is ideal for a proactive, safety-conscious individual who thrives in a dynamic environment. You’ll play a key part in supporting and leading daily terminal operations including bulk cargo handling, container devanning, steel operations, and reloading onto trucks and HGVs.
The successful candidate will ensure compliance with health and safety standards, drive operational improvements, and help build an engaged and high-performing team. You’ll be instrumental in managing costs, delivering first-class customer service, and supporting the wider strategic direction of the business unit.

The Candidate;
Minimum 3 years' experience in operational management within shipping, logistics, or port environments
Proven leadership skills and a track record of managing teams in a fast-paced operational setting
Strong understanding of cargo handling, health and safety regulations, and logistics best practice
Ability to problem-solve under pressure and adapt to shifting operational priorities
Confident communicator, able to build effective relationships at all levels
Proficient in Microsoft Office and port management systems
Full UK driving licence required
Duties and Responsibilities;
Supporting the Business Unit Manager in leading all operational activity across the terminal
Delivering safety excellence through proactive leadership and engagement with regulatory bodies
Driving a culture of continuous improvement and innovation across all areas of the business
Managing and developing teams through clear development and succession strategies
Ensuring efficient delivery of cargo operations, minimising delays and optimising performance
Collaborating closely with customers, contractors, shipping lines, hauliers and internal stakeholders
Monitoring and managing the operational P&L, contributing to revenue and EBITDA targets
Overseeing compliance with contractual agreements, KPIs, SLAs and customer expectations
