SENCO Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the school’s SEND provision, ensuring high-quality support for pupils with additional needs.
* Work closely with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to develop and implement effective strategies for students with SEND.
* Oversee the creation and implementation of EHCPs (Education, Health, and Care Plans), ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
* Monitor and assess the progress of SEND students, implementing targeted interventions where necessary.
* Provide training and guidance to staff on inclusive teaching strategies and best practices.
* Foster positive relationships with parents and guardians, keeping them informed of their child’s progress and support strategies.
* Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement whole-school SEND policies.
* Stay up to date with changes in SEND legislation and best practices, ensuring the school remains compliant and at the forefront of inclusive education.
SENCO Requirements
✔ Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
✔ National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or willingness to work towards it.
✔ Proven experience working with children with SEND in a primary school setting.
✔ Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and current legislation.
✔ Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
✔ A commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive school environment.
✔ Ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external professionals.
