The Power Management Centre (PMC) Operative plays a pivotal role in delivering a world-class power management service within our client's extensive facilities management operations across the UK. This role ensures the proactive, efficient, and professional collation, registration, and management of power-related events across the entire client power infrastructure footprint.
Job Description
Acting as a central hub, the PMC Operative is responsible for monitoring and addressing power events using sophisticated systems such as SCADA, Netcool, Dataminor, Sentinal, and Europlex, ensuring that potential issues are identified and resolved before they impact client services. Through meticulous event prioritization, the PMC Operative will manage incidents by logging them into Remedy, assigning them to field engineers trained in power systems, and monitoring the resolution process.
For high-risk or service-impacting alarms, the operative will follow established Major Service Outage (MSO) protocols to ensure swift and effective handling. Operating both proactively and reactively, the team’s work is instrumental in preventing service disruptions and maintaining the reliability of power systems for all client customers. This role requires a keen eye for detail, technical proficiency, and a commitment to excellence in managing critical infrastructure systems.
Key Responsibilities
* Monitor and record all power alarm events in the Power Management Centre, ensuring proper action is taken
* Log into power alarm telemetry systems daily to track and manage new or ongoing alarms
* Utilise Netcool/Scada management tools to capture and manage active telemetry-based power events
* Create and manage remedy tickets for power alarms, ensuring accurate prioritisation and resolution
* Collaborate with NMCs and alarm collection teams to centralise telemetry event ownership within the Power Management Centre
* Serve as the primary contact for field-based power engineers addressing faults or performing maintenance, whether employed by the client or third parties
* Collect, monitor, and report on planned maintenance schedules, including on-load generator tests, ensuring completion and success
* Record and disseminate information on power infrastructure upgrades and improvement programs, including "get well" schemes
Professional and Personal Competencies/Qualifications
* ONC, HNC, City & Guilds, NVQ, or a recognized apprenticeship in engineering, building services, HVAC, electrical engineering, or a similar discipline
* IOSH or equivalent health & safety training/qualification
* Basic knowledge of power plant systems and understanding of power alarms/events (UPS & DC systems)
* Comprehensive experience in engineering within FM, building services, or manufacturing industries
* Experience working in a Helpdesk or Management Centre, including handling calls, tracking alarm events, and managing ticket systems
* Strong verbal and written communication skills for maintaining customer confidence
* Technical understanding of HVAC systems
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Maximo or similar software tools
