Job Duties

Receive and review batch reports noting discrepancies (e.g., closed or delinquent accounts, incomplete information, and quarter reporting errors) related to employers’ accounts and payroll tax information.
Audit reports, review data on file, conduct research and contact appropriate parties to obtain additional information and/or advise of changes (e.g., tax rate or payroll), as needed.
Review requests for changes to employer files from various VEC staff. Submit requests to produce quarterly delinquent and semi-annual credit notifications.
Respond to oral and written inquiries from employers, employer representatives and field staff timely and appropriately, providing excellent customer service and sound guidance.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices; the Unemployment Compensation Act; and related payroll tax reporting requirements.
Strong auditing, organizational, customer service, analytical, problem solving, and computer (word processing, data entry and spreadsheets) skills.
Ability to collect and analyze data; review and reconcile information; identify and request proper posting entry to resolve issues; use automated systems to review and report information; operate a calculator and personal computer.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; work effectively with the public and agency staff; present facts in a concise, organized format; meet tight deadlines; and work independently and also as a team member.
Additional Considerations
Experience providing customer service.
Experience reviewing and analyzing transactions to resolve problems.
Coursework and/or training in accounting, business, or a related field.
Experience working in tax (e.g., computation, analysis, examination, and/or reporting), accounting, finance, or payroll and working with accounting software programs.
Knowledge of the Virginia Unemployment Compensation Act and how employer accounts are updated.
