Job overview
The Julian Hospital, located in Norwich is home to NSFT's Older Persons inpatient wards. The Julian Hospital has five wards for patients with a range of mental health disorders, frailty and other co-morbidities. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Occupational Therapist to join our MDT and support patients on our Dementia and organic wards with their recovery from acute distress. The Occupational Therapist will work closely with the MDT including Physiotherapy and the Nursing team.
Main duties of the job
* To oversee and deliver high quality evidence-based practice and embed the Occupational Therapy process within the clinical area.
* Undertake occupation focused assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of interventions for service users.
* To support in the assessment and discharge planning of patients.
* Contribute to and participate in multi-disciplinary team assessment and formulation.
* Be a practice educator for students.
* Participate/lead on developments within the service by using outcome measures and engaging in Quality Improvement projects.
* Provide supervision and leadership to band 5 Occupational Therapists and/or junior therapy staff as required.
* Participate in Trust wide projects covering OT specific project and improvement work.
* Applicants must have completed their preceptorship.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Degree, Masters or Diploma in Occupational Therapy
* Registered with The Health and Care Professionals Council
Experience
* Ability to work both independently and under supervision
* Post registration experience in Mental Health
* Prior completion of Preceptorship
* Supervising students/staff
* Experience working in a range of mental health settings.
* Experience of working in Dementia
Skills
* Ability to deliver OT assessment and treatment with designated client group
* Ability to work under pressure managing own caseload and effective prioritisation
* Demonstrate leadership skills
Knowledge
* Specialist Knowledge and application of Occupational Therapy Assessments and interventions relevant to this client group
* Knowledge and understanding of working in Dementia
* Knowledge of current legislation including risk assessment and CPA.
Other
* Ability to travel independently
