Community & Hospice Palliative Medicine Consultant
We are seeking a Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join our established team of 2 Consultants and 2 Specialist Doctors. This is an exciting opportunity to work within an experienced multi-professional team in community and hospice settings, and to develop the service.
Applicants able to lead trainee supervision, education, appraisal or keen to undertake a clinical leadership role would be very welcome. Those with an interest in these or other areas, e.g. research, would be supported to develop these skills.
We are a friendly and supportive team with a forward-looking approach to service development; currently exploring the use of technologies in palliative care, building a research portfolio, supporting career progression for Specialty Doctors, doctors in training and medical students, and always promoting closer working across teams to provide seamless high quality palliative care to all people in all settings.
Main Duties of the Job
Duties will be worked over 7-10 programmed activities. This includes 1 session for out of hours on-call. All job plans are reviewed in line with national guidance with commitment acknowledged for out of hours work.
This post will join the four existing Community/Hospice senior doctors in providing clinical oversight and leadership to the comprehensive multi-professional specialist palliative care services across the Portsmouth and South East Hampshire locality. All services are provided to those with any life limiting condition.
The team of senior doctors rotate through different clinical settings every 6 months. Lead roles, listed below, are associated with one or two people for a number of years in order to promote continuity.
The following non-clinical roles are available, delivered through SPA/APA allocation agreed at joint planning. Roles may evolve to fit individual interests & service needs and will be supported with education as required:
1. Education and Training Lead
2. QI and Research Lead
3. Medical lead for community teams
The post holder will join the non-resident 2nd on-call 1 in 5 rota. Looking to increase to 1 in 6 or less frequent with recruitment to Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth posts in coming years.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent
* MRCP (UK), MRCGP or equivalent
* On the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) or CESR
* Full Registration with the GMC with license to practice
* Valid medical indemnity insurance
* A research based higher degree (PhD, MD or equivalent)
* Education, teaching or training experience &/or qualifications
