Metallisation is looking for a Controls / PLC Engineer to join our dynamic team. Role
As a Controls/PLC Engineer at Metallisation, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our thermal spray equipment. From designing cutting-edge control systems to contributing to global turnkey customer projects, your work will span industries such as aerospace, biomedical, mining, printing, rail, and road.
You'll collaborate with a highly skilled and dedicated team, reporting directly to our Engineering Manager while maintaining close communication with our Commercial team and Managing Director. Responsibilities
* Build and nurture strong customer relationships through technical discussions, ensuring seamless collaboration with both external and internal stakeholders throughout projects.
* Take ownership of PLC design and functionality, optimising the spraying process for diverse applications while adhering to schedule and cost constraints.
* Work closely with Mechanical Engineers and Project Managers to achieve the required functionality and performance.
* Collect, analyse, and interpret test data, drawing insightful conclusions and presenting findings through clear reports.
* Ensure all documentation, including manuals, diagrams, and software packages, is accurate and up to date.
* Assist in obtaining product safety certifications, including CE and other relevant approvals.
* Support conceptual designs during the quotation and pre-study phase, including cost estimations.
* Develop innovative new designs and adapt proven solutions, either independently or in collaboration with colleagues, for projects and existing equipment.
* Build mechanical, electrical, and electronic prototypes in the workshop.
* Oversee system commissioning at our Dudley facility and customer sites, providing training, conducting acceptance tests, and ensuring smooth handovers.
* Offer timely technical support via phone, email, and documentation to assist customers and drive future business growth.
* Work on global projects, with opportunities to travel.
Candidate Profile
The Ideal Candidate
You are a strong communicator with a service-oriented mindset and a passion for innovation. With 3-4 years of experience in qualified design, programming, and commissioning of machines and systems, you bring both technical expertise and a problem-solving attitude.
We are looking for someone with the following skills and attributes:
Education & Qualifications:
* Graduate/HND in Mechanical Engineering, Materials, Control Systems, or a related field.
* Strong academic background, including GCSEs and A-Levels in Maths and Science.
* Fluent in written and spoken English (additional languages are a plus).
Technical Expertise:
* Experience and knowledge in leading electrical design.
* Strong understanding of PCs, PLCs, databases, and system architecture.
* Proven experience in PLC/HMI/VB programming, with a preference for Siemens PLCs.
* Ability to support software development, including PLC and HMI design.
* Experience with data transfer, communication, and networking systems.
* Hands-on ability to use mechanical and electrical measurement and test equipment.
* 2D/3D CAD experience (preferred).
* Ability to manage expectations at all levels, from boardroom discussions to on-site execution, ensuring a right-first-time approach.
* Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills, with a structured approach to breaking down complex issues and finding innovative solutions.
* A self-starter who can work independently and take ownership of capital projects.
* Ability to multi-task and prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment.
* A people-oriented, pragmatic professional with a strategic mindset, capable of driving improvements both commercially and technically.

Additional Requirements:
