About the Borough
Joining us, you get to work for not just one high performing London Borough, but two.
Kingston and Sutton councils have a number of shared services serving both authorities, with some teams and roles more focused on one council than the other, but the majority are shared across both, meaning you get multiple opportunities to learn from a wider pool of activities and two different political bodies.
We work flexibly in both Kingston and Sutton offices, and support working at home or flexible working patterns that enable you to tailor your working and personal life. We provide the equipment and tools to enable you to work flexibly, and in return ask you to use that flexibility to be creative and ambitious in the services we deliver.
About the Role and our Ideal Candidate
This role will report directly to the Community Parks Programme Manager, supporting the delivery of the Community Parks Programme. The successful candidate will ideally be experienced in project development and delivery of projects within an outdoor environment. This will include the writing of project specifications, commissioning and evaluation of tenders, all aspects of appointing and site liaison with suppliers and contractors, routine monitoring and reporting of project delivery to the required quality standards.
The type of projects to be delivered will include design and installation of footpaths, children's play areas, outdoor sports and gyms and a range of natural environment projects including wetland construction and enhancement.
The candidate should have experience of working as part of a team and be experienced in the development and delivery of projects within an outdoor setting. The candidate should have the ability to specify, evaluate and commission projects through appropriate systems within the context of public procurement regulations, principles, and practices or an equivalent process.
This role will require the ability to attend a variety of outdoor locations with variable surfaces and ground conditions to supervise construction projects, including meeting with colleagues from other professional disciplines, liaison with and instructing suppliers, completing routine progress reports, inspecting and monitoring works for quality assurance purposes.
The role will require the writing of technical reports, preparation of funding bids, budgetary management and monitoring and writing of committee reports and committee attendance on occasion and therefore experience in these areas is beneficial.
