Project Overview:
The role will involve supporting the client's work on the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station, specifically focused on tunnel-related design and build projects. The successful candidate will assist the Design Project Manager with tunnel design and associated change control processes.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables:
* Assist in coordinating the design process and interfacing between the construction team, design team, and supply chain (Packages 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, and 10).
* Ensure the highest safety standards are upheld through risk mitigation during the design process.
* Provide accurate and timely design information to facilitate efficient construction activities.
* Assist in design reviews with relevant engineering disciplines.
* Support the Design Manager and construction team with documentation and records of design changes.
* Manage Requests for Information (RFIs), Technical Queries (TQs), Field Change Requests (FCRs), Design Evolution Notes (DENs), and Temporary Works Change Forms.
* Assist in reviewing design and construction documents for compliance with construction requirements.
* Support the identification of opportunities to enhance safety and constructability.
* Participate in reviewing construction sequences, method statements, risk assessments, and inspection and test plans to align with design drawings and specifications.
* Support checking of temporary works designs and interfaces with permanent works design.
* Contribute to schedule reporting and forecasting.
* Ensure lessons learned are incorporated into Tunnel to Shaft Connection and other project packages.
* Assist with compiling the as-built Design Risk Register.
* Support the review and preparation of red-line drawings, including construction and FCR as-built drawings.
Required Skills and Experience:
Essential:
* Minimum 2:1 BEng (Hons) or BSc (Hons) in Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical Engineering.
* Working towards ICE or equivalent engineering body membership.
* Experience in an engineering environment.
* Eligibility to work and live permanently in the UK.
* Full, clean UK driving licence.
* Strong team focus and the ability to build relationships with individuals at all levels.
* Adaptable, flexible approach to work and ability to handle change.
* Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and influence decisions.
Desirable:
* Experience in tunnelling or secondary lining.
* Ability to interpret reinforcement drawings and understand basic details.
* Experience with AutoCAD, 3D modelling, and Microsoft Word/Excel.
* Civil or Structural Engineering experience.
