Responsible To: Head Chef
Accountable To: Home Manager
You will need to be a driver with your own vehicle for this role due to the location of the Care Home.
Main Purpose of the Role:
To assist the head chef in providing, managing and developing a high-quality catering service to residents, guests and visitors to the home. To operate a safe, professional and cost-effective catering service whilst at all times complying with all statutory requirements.
Key responsibilities:
* Assist in the preparation, cooking and attractive presentation of all meals. The majority of dishes will be made in-house and home-baked products should be available for residents and visitors to the home.
* Regularly check the layout of the dining room ensuring a welcoming atmosphere with fully laid tables in line with company standards.
* Provide regular interaction with residents to gain feedback regarding the food service and make any necessary changes accordingly.
* Ensure a high standard of cleanliness is maintained within the kitchen at all times.
* Plan and cook all meals in line with planned menus.
* Cater for all specialist dietary requirements of residents.
* Manage and lead the team you are responsible for.
* Collect feedback from residents and relatives and reflect this in menus and food on offer.
* Actively participate in the Resident of the Day process.
Stock control:
* Work with the head chef to ensure that the food budget is adhered to. Assist in the ordering of supplies, using nominated and approved suppliers.
* Keep stock secure at all times, store appropriately and avoid unnecessary wastage and deterioration of foodstuff.
* Ensure equipment is used appropriately and for its designed use. Report equipment defects to the head chef and withdraw from use immediately.
Training:
* Ensure that mandatory training is kept up to date and that all additional training provided is attended.
General:
* Comply with all company rules, policies and procedures, including statutory requirements of the health and safety at work act, care standards act and the relevant regulations.
* Participate in the company’s Champion role system and carry on tasks relevant to this system.
* Show courtesy and respect to residents and relatives and maintain the confidentiality of residents and their families at all times.
* Greet all visitors in a friendly, courteous and efficient manner and promote the company positively in the local community.
* Maintain good working relationships with all colleagues, residents and relatives at all times.
