As a principal building inspector, you will join a committed team of professionals to ensure the highest standards of building control enforcement within the scope of the building control policy. You will provide a proactive approach to the functions within the Building Control unit, ensuring statutory obligations under Section 91 of the Building Act 1984 are met.

Our principal inspectors undertake specialist or technical assessments and make decisions based on those assessments within the building control service. The role requires professional qualifications, relevant vocational training, and practical experience. The post holder will undertake licensed building regulation activities and work independently on domestic and commercial projects, supporting others as needed.

Key Responsibilities
1. Manage a caseload of development sites, ensuring legislative compliance through inspections.
2. Support and develop team members, offering technical guidance and tutorials.
3. Lead investigations into non-compliance and develop enforcement cases.
4. Engage proactively with service users and potential users.
5. Respond to reports of dangerous structures and undertake necessary actions and enforcement.
Candidate Requirements
* Minimum of 5 years' experience in a building control environment.
* Registered at a Class 2D level with the building safety regulator.
* Strong knowledge of legislation and its application in daily activities.
* Chartered membership of a relevant profession (e.g., CABE, CIOB).
* Comfortable with technological solutions.
* Flexible and adaptable approach.
