Job Introduction
A great opportunity for a Public Health Principal to join us in a rewarding and challenging role, providing public health expertise and leadership for a programme of work to improve people’s health through our workplaces across three local authorities.
This role sits within the shared Public Health team that serves three neighbouring local authorities: Milton Keynes, Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire, and is hosted by Milton Keynes City Council.
You’ll work closely with professional colleagues across these councils, who all have significant plans for growth. You’ll ensure better integration of health priorities into workplace settings to improve people’s health and promote health equity.
The permanent post reports to the Head of Public Health (Built Environment, Housing, and workplaces) and will be part of our wider Public Health Team.
This role may be suitable for home working, following an assessment.
Main Responsibility
* Work with partner agencies and local businesses to develop and implement programmes to improve health and employability of our residents.
* Develop workplace health approaches, in partnership with employers and other stakeholders, that support employee health and wellbeing and promote health equity.
* Present evidence relating to employment, workplaces and health to a variety of senior stakeholders including local business leaders, health professionals and councillors.
* Lead the planning, delivery and evaluation of strategic public health programmes.
* Line manage Public Health Practitioners to ensure effective delivery of employment and workplace health objectives and support wider public health programmes.
The Ideal Candidate
* Masters-level education and/or relevant professional qualification or equivalent experience in public health with an excellent understanding of the principles and practice of public health.
* Excellent ability to collate and analyse data to inform decision making, policy development, practice and/or evaluation.
* Programme or project management experience and the ability to lead multi-agency workstreams, manage risk, political challenge, and deliver effective stakeholder engagement.
* Proven ability to influence and collaborate with agencies, organisations and communities to deliver public health outcomes and improve health equity.
* Excellent communication skills and an ability to communicate to different audiences, including external organisations, stakeholders, members of the public and councillors.
