The Role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Building Inspector to join our Building Control Team. The Building Control Team are responsible for ensuring compliance of construction works with the Building Regulations.
In this role, you will manage a caseload of construction projects commensurate to your BSR registration.
Key Responsibilities:
Undertake plan checks
Undertake site inspections
Undertake site inspections in relation to dangerous structures
Take enforcement action as necessary
Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.

It will be your job to undertake the assessment of building regulation applications as part of a team, to ensure works on site comply with prescribed technical standards and approved details. This career grade post is an excellent opportunity for both recently qualified and more experienced building control inspectors alike, who can demonstrate their competency to work unsupervised on domestic projects from the first day of employment. The starting salary will be dependent on your level of registration with the BSR (£37,938 to £46,731pa - BSR Registration Class 2A to 2D).
Work Style
At North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. Depending on the role and personal circumstances, you will fall into one of these categories. However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more or less frequently, this can be negotiated.
This role falls into the category of Flexible Worker which means you can expect to work in the following way:
2-3 days in the office
Works both from home and the office, depending on the task at hand.
Training is provided to help balance work-life and manage time effectively, with an emphasis on communication for team touchpoints and planning in-office days for collaboration.
About You
We are looking for an individual who is passionate about building safety and public service, and who possesses the following skills and experience:
Essential Criteria:
Registered with the Building Safety Regulator at Class 2A for plan check and site inspection work
Ability to plan and organise own work effectively
Good communication and customer care skills
Adheres to professional standards and codes of conduct set by the BSR
Desirable Criteria:
Registered with the Building Safety Regulator at Classes A, B, C and D
Ability to work towards obtaining next level of registration with the BSR
