The Senior Buyer will play a strategic role within the Technical Procurement & Production function, with a particular focus on sourcing and purchasing technical components for electrical systems and controls, including software integration, for various programs within the company. This role involves sourcing and vetting technical suppliers, obtaining quotations, and ensuring that purchased parts meet required quality standards, are delivered on time, and remain within budget.
Key Responsibilities
* Source and engage appropriate suppliers for electrical systems and controls, including software, managing the RFI/RFQ documentation process.
* Provide expert technical purchasing guidance to divisions within the company, especially for electrical and control systems.
* Collaborate with Engineering to ensure accurate product availability and lead times, particularly for prototype builds.
* Resolve invoice queries and work closely with Finance to address any procurement-related financial issues.
* Oversee supplier performance, ensuring compliance with KPIs such as on-time delivery, right-first-time, and non-conformance rates.
* Act as the single point of contact for technical purchasing matters, managing relationships with electrical systems and controls suppliers.
* Stay up-to-date with industry trends, technological advancements, and statutory requirements, ensuring the company’s procurement strategy remains competitive and compliant.
* Drive cost reduction strategies without compromising on quality or performance, particularly for electrical and control systems.
* Conduct value analysis and explore alternative suppliers or materials to ensure continuous improvement.
* Maintain effective communication across Design, Engineering, Procurement, and Project Management teams, ensuring timely and efficient procurement support for production requirements.
* Review and optimize current supplier base, exploring opportunities for supplier consolidation and business continuity plans.
* Mentor and develop junior staff, promoting professional growth within the team.
* Ensure compliance with the company's Health, Safety, and Environmental policies.
Additional Responsibilities:
* Prepare and present management reports for the Senior Management Team.
* Conduct investment appraisals and contribute to budgeting processes for tooling and capital equipment in collaboration with Directors and Finance.
* Support the implementation and maintenance of ISO9001 processes within the procurement function.
* Lead and manage the development and execution of commodity strategies for electrical systems and controls.
* Promote continuous improvement by identifying areas for process optimization and risk mitigation.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
* Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar purchasing role, specifically within the automotive sector, with a focus on electrical systems, controls, and software integration.
* Proven experience in sourcing and purchasing electrical components and software solutions, as well as managing supplier relationships and negotiations.
* Strong understanding of technical and commercial aspects of electrical systems, controls, and related software.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities effectively.
* Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and functions.
* A proactive approach to supplier performance management and cost reduction initiatives.
* A thorough understanding of automotive industry standards and compliance requirements.
