Job Title: Early Childhood Teacher
Duties:
1. Bathe, diaper and feed infants and toddlers
2. Develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children
3. Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs and taking children to local points of interest
4. Support early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children
5. Assist early childhood educators or supervisors in keeping records
6. Engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs and preparing crafts
7. Provide opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity
8. Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits
9. Maintain daycare equipment and assist in housekeeping and cooking duties
10. Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods
11. Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioral problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisor
12. Submit written observations on children to early childhood educators or supervisors
13. Discuss progress and problems of children at staff meetings
14. Knowledge of Day Nurseries Act
15. Knowledge of licensing regulations
16. Establish guidelines for behavior
17. Assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with parents and other staff members
18. Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children
19. Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children
20. Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children
21. Plan and organize activities for school-age children in child-care programs before and after regular school hours
22. Supervise and co-ordinate activities of other early childhood educators and early childhood educator assistants
Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses:
1. Emergency child care first aid and CPR
2. Food allergy and anaphylaxis training
3. Member of the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE)
4. Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate
5. First Aid Certificate
6. CPR Certificate
