The delivery of the Westinghouse UK Fuel Growth Program is essential to the future nuclear fuel products for all current and future reactor types and is a fundamental part of the UK Government’s Nuclear Roadmap and Net Zero 2050 commitment. The portfolio is fundamental to the Westinghouse UK Fuel long-term strategy and essential for the growth of Springfields Fuels site.
We are searching for Project Manager who excels in a complex and regulated nuclear environment, demonstrating both dynamism and drive. The role will be varied and wide ranging with the successful candidate supporting a diverse portfolio of projects in a number of operational production plant, laboratory, and site infrastructure support areas. The responsibilities start at business planning and follow through bid, delivery to contract closure.
Skills and Competencies:
1. Essential to have or be close to acquiring a professional qualification in project management, project controls, scientific or engineering discipline to bachelor degree level or equivalent.
2. Being a member of APM or PMI is highly beneficial
3. Trained in and working knowledge of CDM and NEC4 are desirable
4. At least 5 years of experience as a project manager ideally within a high complexity, highly regulated environment. Demonstrable experience of managing full lifecycle projects from business case, bid, initiation, execution, closeout & benefits realization
5. Strong leadership and behavioral competencies are essential to be effective in this role
6. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other members of the senior stakeholder groups, the project teams and external providers
7. Has commercial experience particularly in managing vendors and service providers
8. Understanding of the UK regulatory bodies and the requirements for delivering change within a nuclear licensed site
9. Good knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation procedures
10. Manager level competencies in estimating, planning, controlling and risk management within complex projects and programs
11. Understands and takes accountability for change control and financial governance within the project
12. Understands engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning work phases and is able to hold these groups to account on safety, cost, schedule and risk mitigation.
Your Responsibilities:
13. Coordinate and deliver the full project lifecycle from feasibility through bidding and contract award to complete outcome realization.
14. Manage the project team to develop plans, secure financial, human, and physical resources, and manage the risks to deliver outcomes safely, economically, and efficiently.
15. Engage internal and external stakeholders to secure the best possible outcome for the business unit in meeting project objectives on time, within budget, and to quality standards
16. Understand and align project priorities with those of the ongoing business unit and operational plants, reporting risks and issues through established procedural processes
17. Address cultural and personnel issues associated with implementing change
18. Identify, evaluate, and manage risks and opportunities
19. Facilitate appointments to project teams and work with functional managers to secure the necessary skills and experience to meet project objectives.
20. Ensure all projects are staffed with suitably qualified and experienced personnel and that projects are established and delivered in compliance with Westinghouse procedures.
21. Maintain seniority for responsibilities and accountabilities within the project environment, being proactive and visible as the driving force behind the project plan
22. Provide mentoring and training opportunities for less experienced project professionals to ensure adherence to policies, practices, and procedures
23. Contribute to customer offers, including basis of estimate documents, risk and assumption modeling, and costs provided to business cases
24. Lead problem-solving and scenario modelling activities
The Project Manager will oversee the project lifecycle, from initiation and bidding to completion and evaluation, reporting to the UK Fuel Head of Programs. The project portfolio is renowned, complex, and highly valuable, exceeding £1B. This role involves coordinating with a broad range of stakeholders across Commercial, Finance, Operations, Safety, and Quality, as well as international counterparts in the US and Japan. Additionally, the Project Manager will engage with external stakeholders like the UK Government's DESNZ and NDA.
