An exciting opportunity has arisen within Powys Teaching Health Board for an experienced Trauma Therapist and EMDR Consultant to join our Psychology and Psychological Therapies Service as the Lead Specialist Trauma Practitioner.
The role will involve working closely with senior colleagues in the Psychology and Psychological Therapies Service and with other key stakeholders to support the implementation of the Traumatic Stress Wales Service Improvement Specification.
This will include:
1. Contributing to the planning, implementation and evaluation of a Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Pathway.
2. Caring for a specialist case load comprising clients experiencing moderate to severe and complex mental health issues related to trauma, including PTSD and Complex PTSD.
3. Leading on the strategic development, co-ordination and oversight of service and workforce development in relation to evidence-based trauma interventions.
4. Coordinating and delivering specialist clinical supervision in one or more evidence-based trauma therapies, to include EMDR.
5. Supervising and mentoring clinicians undertaking training in EMDR and/or working towards EMDR accreditation.

Main duties of the job
To hold responsibility for:
1. The provision of specialist trauma assessment, formulation and evidence-based interventions for individuals presenting with PTSD / Complex PTSD.
2. The role will involve approximately 50% direct clinical work, including assessment and evidence-based interventions.
3. The development and delivery of trauma-enhanced and trauma-specialist interventions in line with the Trauma Informed Wales Framework (2022).
4. Contributing to the development of high quality, accessible and responsive clinical services and pathways for people presenting with mental health issues as an adverse consequence of trauma / complex trauma.
5. Planning and co-ordination of training in evidence-based trauma interventions, including EMDR and SPRING, across mental health services.
6. Contributing to the development and implementation of an evidence-based PTSD / Complex PTSD Pathway across tiers of need within mental health services.
7. Representing PTHB at local and national meetings and forums, including at National Traumatic Stress Wales meetings and workshops and the local Traumatic Stress Wales Steering Group.
8. Liaising and working in partnership with Traumatic Stress Wales national hub, key local and national stakeholders, mental health services providers, and work with relevant statutory and voluntary agencies in the community.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post. English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and/or knowledge
Essential
* HPCP registrant or professional for undertaking assessment under Part 1 of the Mental Health Measure (Wales).
* Health or Social Care professional qualification RMN, Clinical/Counselling Psychologist, Dip OT, Diploma in Social Work or equivalent.
* EMDR UK accreditation as a Clinical Supervisor and Consultant (Adult).
* Up to date knowledge of legislation, policy, and professional issues pertinent to the area of psychological trauma / traumatic stress.
* Specialist knowledge in relation to working with complex mental health difficulties and trauma / complex trauma presentations.
* Awareness of a wide range of evidence-based therapeutic models / interventions in the treatment of trauma/ complex trauma and an advanced understanding of at least two, one of which must be EMDR.
Desirable
* EMDR UK accreditation as a Clinical Supervisor and Consultant (child and adolescents).
* EMDR UK accredited Practitioner (child and adolescent).
* Up to date knowledge of relevant mental health legislative frameworks for adolescents and adults.
* Additional training / qualifications in evidence-based approaches to working with trauma, such as Cognitive Therapy for PTSD, Narrative Exposure Therapy, Trauma-Focused CBT, KIDNET.
* Evidence of further training / qualification in leadership and / or management.
Experience
Essential
* Significant experience as a qualified Clinical Psychologist, Registered Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist, or Registered Social Worker working with clients with moderate to severe and complex mental health difficulties.
* Extensive experience of undertaking holistic trauma-enhanced assessments and formulation, and providing evidence-based interventions for a range of mental health difficulties, including PTSD & C-PTSD.
* Experience of providing EMDR consultation and supervision to mental health professionals.
* Experience of working with senior managers on service development and improvement, including strategic and workforce planning, audit/evaluation, clinical governance.
* Experience of providing highly specialist supervision and consultation to mental health professionals working with trauma / PTSD/C-PTSD.
* Experience of developing and presenting reports and /or delivering training in a professional capacity.

* Formulation, and providing evidence-based interventions for a range of mental health difficulties, including PTSD & C-PTSD.
