We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to join STFC Accelerator Science and Technology Centre at Daresbury Laboratory to lead cross departmental teams responsible for the delivery of multi-million-pound high impact science, research and technology projects.
Working within the Programmes Group, you will have responsibilities for delivering projects within the ASTeC programme. ASTeC projects enable the delivery of domestic and international research outputs.
As an ASTeC Project Manager, you will:
1. Contribute to the future of UK and international science, as part of a collaborating team designing, building, and operating scientific facilities and infrastructure.
2. Be a pro-active leader, with excellent people management skills.
3. Build working relationships with scientists, engineers, technicians, resource managers and senior leaders, internally and externally to STFC.
4. Be able to apply your project management experiences and tools to deliver results in a scientific and engineering environment.
5. Be a key member of the Programmes group contributing to continuous improvement of project management in ASTeC.
6. Be highly motivated and passionate about the work you do.
7. Be comfortable being responsible for delivering multi-million-pound projects.
Tasks you will be required to:
1. Deliver the ASTeC project in line with the time, cost, and quality specification.
2. Create and deliver project management plans and schedules, revise as appropriate to meet changing needs, priorities and other requirements.
3. Work with resource managers and technical experts to develop project and work package plans, including scope, delivery plans, schedules, staffing requirements and costs.
4. Assign responsibilities to Work Package Leaders and support their execution of project work.
5. Ensure an appropriate project methodology is tailored and developed as needed, and then followed in accordance with STFC’s Project Management Framework.
6. Represent project(s) within Portfolio management structures, including portfolio resource allocation and scheduling.
7. Schedule expenditures and analyse variances; monitoring and identifying corrective actions with techniques such as Earned Value Management (EVM) as appropriate.
8. Prepare project status reports to stakeholders.
9. Anticipate and manage change control, feeding into overall project governance necessary to meet both STFC and customer project management requirements.
10. Management of Health & Safety within the STFC H&S codes and policies.
11. Use computer systems for planning, communicating and purchasing.
The following criteria will be assessed at Shortlisting (S), Interview (I) or both (S&I).
Qualifications:
Formal qualification in Project Management e.g. APMP or Prince 2 (S)
Degree level qualification in a relevant science/engineering discipline or substantive equivalent technical engineering project management experience. (S)
Essential Experience:
* Have an excellent knowledge and demonstrated experience of project management, ideally in a high technology field. (S&I)
* Understand different project management techniques, tools and processes (S&I)
* Be able to draw on strong understanding of scientific and engineering principles to support the development and delivery of appropriate technical solutions (S&I)
* Have experience of working in a dynamic matrix project management environment, and be comfortable in leadership positions within multidisciplinary teams (S&I)
* Demonstrate enthusiasm for our projects and strong desire to take ownership of delivery of technical aspects (S&I)
* Have good communication skills and the ability to manage internal staff and contractors. (I)
* Have a strong safety culture and knowledge of how to work safely. (S&I)
* Have strong computer skills and be experienced in the use of MS Office. (S&I)
* Be willing and able to travel/work within the UK and overseas as required (I)
