Position Title: Civil Engineer – Sustainable Drainage & Green Infrastructure
Reports to: Shane Frost – Head of Business Development
Location: Bodiam, East Sussex – remote working also considered.
Purpose
This role is for designing and delivering high-quality, sustainable drainage systems and flood mitigation strategies. This position contributes to improving urban environments, enhancing flood resilience and supporting sustainable urban development through the integration of green infrastructure. As a key member of the team, you will help shape the future of flood management by working on a variety of innovative projects while supporting the company's development and growth in this dynamic sector.
Key Focus Areas/Responsibilities
1. Design & Delivery of SuDS and Green Infrastructure Solutions
* Lead the design and delivery of SuDS retrofit projects and flood risk mitigation strategies, including solutions such as tree pits, rain gardens, SuDSPod units and floating wetlands.
* Develop and refine catchment area strategies and drainage designs, applying technical expertise in drainage systems and flood risk assessments.
* Utilise industry-standard drainage design software (such as AutoCAD, Microdrainage and InfoDrainage) to model, simulate, and optimise drainage systems, ensuring their effectiveness in managing flood risk and enhancing environmental sustainability.
1. Project Management & Stakeholder Collaboration
* Develop, manage and oversee multiple projects concurrently, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to high-quality standards.
* Contribute to technical documentation such as tender submissions and proposals, preparing detailed project bids and reports that align with client requirements and regulatory standards.
* Work closely with clients, stakeholders, and project teams to ensure that all designs comply with regulations and design standards. Engage with local authorities, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance and alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
* Ensure client satisfaction, maintaining clear communication and addressing challenges as they arise.
1. Innovation, Research & Professional Development
* Stay ahead of industry trends in SuDS, green infrastructure, and flood risk management, bringing new ideas, technologies and solutions to the team.
* Contribute to the development of internal best practices and guidance documents to streamline processes and improve design methodologies.
* Support the company’s growth by proactively managing competing priorities and identifying new business opportunities. Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability as the company expands and develops in this rapidly evolving sector.
Key Competencies & Skills
* Qualifications: Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field, with relevant professional qualifications (e.g. IEng or CEng status).
* Experience: Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in SuDS design, drainage strategies, and flood risk assessments. Experience in urban infrastructure and green infrastructure solutions is highly desirable.
* Software Proficiency: Strong proficiency in CAD software and drainage design tools.
* Project Management: Proven experience in managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and delivering results in a fast-paced environment.
* Passion for Sustainability: A genuine interest in green infrastructure, sustainable drainage solutions and flood risk management, with a strong commitment to creating environmentally friendly, resilient urban spaces.
* Communication Skills: Ability to present technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate with diverse teams to deliver successful outcomes.
* Adaptability: Willingness to grow with the company, taking on increased responsibilities and contributing to business development efforts.
