Central Employment, on behalf of our client, an independent business that designs and manufactures sustainable, recyclable rigid plastic packaging for food products and medical devices, is recruiting for a SHE Office (Safety, Health and Environmental) on a permanent basis, based at their site in Sedgefield.
Reporting to the Site General Manager, this autonomous position will be a challenging multi-faceted role requiring a person who can adapt and be flexible in managing their duties.
Main Purpose: To ensure the compliance of Safety, Health & Environmental policies throughout the site. This includes updating and maintaining the H&S, Environmental manuals and ensuring employees, managers, and suppliers comply and work to the standards throughout the sites. Manage and monitor the waste from the site and its correct disposal channel and method.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Ensure a safe workplace environment without risk to health.
2. Ensure Health & Safety policies, procedures, rules, and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated, and communicated.
3. Ensure the company meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health, safety, environment, and welfare at work.
4. Ensure the completion and regular review of risk assessments for all work equipment and operations.
5. Ensure that all accidents are documented, fully investigated, and recommended improvements implemented.
6. Ensure that safety inspections are carried out, fire drills and fire alarms are correctly reported, and employees are aware of their responsibilities.
7. Amend and update health and safety policies, safe systems of working, and procedures.
8. Ensure training records are updated with all health and safety training.
9. Establish a full program of documented health and safety inspections, audits, and checks.
10. Liaise with external training consultants where appropriate in the provision of training required.
11. Manage, chair, and devise agenda for health and safety meetings, ensuring minutes are circulated and actions carried out.
12. Keep up to date with changes in legislation and amend and communicate all relevant policies/information.
13. Update current environmental policy and ensure it is communicated to all relevant employees.
14. Make recommendations for new environmental practices that will assist the company in meeting customer expectations.
15. Keep up-to-date with legislation and amend and communicate all relevant policies/information.
16. Conduct risk assessments to identify work areas with high risk of operational hazard.
17. Oversee company waste disposal methods to ensure they comply with safe disposal procedures.
18. Review company operational processes to ensure they are in line with external safety legislations.
19. Attend occupational safety and health seminars to update job knowledge and enhance skills.
20. Maintain the HS&E systems.
21. Ensure the planning and completion of all locations Risk Assessments and safe systems of work.
22. Maintain the locations Management processes including the investigation of all lost time incidents and management of the incident recording system to meet statutory requirements.
23. Ensure the reporting of injuries, diseases, and dangerous occurrences.
24. Ensure all emergency evacuation procedures are recorded, followed, and practiced to adhere to agreed group standards.
25. Assist with the management of all Stakeholder relationships (EA, HSE, Customers, Local community).
26. Deliver Health, Safety, and Environmental training.
The successful candidate will be:
1. NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.
2. Environmental qualification would be an advantage but not essential.
3. Experience within a manufacturing environment.
4. Excellent written and spoken communication skills in order to explain health and safety processes to a range of people and to give presentations to groups.
5. Negotiating skills to convince managers of the need to implement and maintain safety standards.
6. Patience and diplomacy because the profession requires a collaborative approach.
7. The ability to understand and analyze complex information and present it simply and accurately.
8. A flexible approach to work.
9. An interest in the law and the ability to understand regulations.
Hours: Monday to Friday – 9am-5pm
