Job Summary
The Oasis Unit is a ten-bedded medical ward for patients who require hospital treatment and who also have dementia or a cognitive impairment. The ward is staffed by two registered nurses and two Health Care Assistants.
All posts are rotational, and you will be required to work days/nights/weekends and Bank Holidays.
Health Care Assistant duties will be to support the registered nurse in all aspects of caring for patients on the unit.
Main Duties of the Job
* To support patients with all aspects of daily living, including washing, dressing, and toileting.
* Assisting patients with meaningful activities as part of distraction and reminiscence therapy.
* Supporting patients with mobility, including moving and handling and use of equipment.
* Maintaining positional changes and skin integrity.
* Helping with eating and drinking, completing fluid balance and food diaries, social activities, emotional and wellbeing support.
* Completing safety checks on equipment and cleaning equipment.
* General housekeeping and maintaining a clean and safe ward environment.
* Completing relevant paperwork to a high standard.
* You will work as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team including Nursing staff, Doctors, activities coordinator, physio, and OT. You will be required to follow care plans and keep records of evaluations/outcomes throughout your shift.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
* NVQ Level 3 in Healthcare or a Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship - or equivalent experience
* Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy (GCSE English and Maths Grade D-G)
* Care Certificate
Knowledge, Training & Experience Essential
* Experience of working as a Care Support Worker or equivalent in a Health or Social care setting
* Experience of working within a team
Desirable
* Demonstrates an interest or previous experience in supporting other health care staff and learners
* Commitment to undertaking continuous professional development (CPD)
Skills & Abilities Essential
* Good communication (written and verbal skills)
* Basic IT skills
* Good organisational skills
