Job Overview
The ED team at Royal Blackburn Hospital is looking to recruit a Band 7 Senior Sister / Charge Nurse. Main Duties of the Job
You will be the driver for providing high-quality care to our patients, bringing innovative ideas for change in patient flow and ensuring Quality Care Indicators are met. Internal rotation onto night duty is a requirement of the post. Support and opportunities will be given in developing your managerial skills. You will have a suitable period of supernumerary in which you will be supported by a mentor.
Working for Our Organisation
Our Emergency Department at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital provides care for both adults and children who attend with serious illness or injury. Due to our large catchment area, we currently provide for approximately 154,000 attendees per year. The department has an 8-bedded resuscitation and 43 major cubicles. The department is classified as a trauma unit and we have a purpose-built helipad onsite that will bring our most serious patients to the department via North West Air Ambulance. We have a new, state-of-the-art staff facility for staff changing with access to a shower as well as a new staff room, education room, and wellbeing retreat for all staff.
Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
1. Sets and monitors standards of quality nursing care over a 24-hour period.
2. Organises staff (according to competence), time, and equipment for work completion.
3. Supervises the delivery of quality nursing care.
4. Praises and corrects team members as appropriate, and is involved in personal development of the workforce using KSF/performance review.
5. Reports on levels of nursing care quality to nurse management.
6. Coordinates the care given by nurses, medical staff, and social workers, alongside any other professionals directly involved in patient care on the unit.
7. Handles complaints by patients, members of the public, and staff, in accordance with Trust Policies.
8. Maintains discipline for the delivery of quality nursing care.
9. Responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of the staff, patients, and visitors under his/her control, as far as is reasonably practicable and in compliance with statutory duty, e.g., C.O.S.H.H. and Manual Handling of Loads.

* Proven continuing education - Degree or working towards
