Join Serco's UK & Europe division as a Scrum Master in our Armed Forces Recruitment Service (AFRS) team. You will be responsible for owning and delivering against agile frameworks, ensuring facilitation, communication, and collaboration between the business, product owner, DevOps teams, and supporting services. Your role is critical in enabling successful agile delivery against transition milestones. You will manage the scrum team, which includes the System Integrator consortium partner, System Development consortium partner, and the customer.
The Scrum Master will lead, educate, and mentor individuals in Agile processes and delivery. You will support Serco's ambition of being a customer-focused organization, structured as Agile product teams. Your role involves promoting and supporting Scrum delivery, including Sprint Ceremonies, by helping everyone understand Scrum theory, practices, rules, and values.

This initiative will, for the first time, see the Royal Navy, the British Army, and the Royal Air Force operate a joint Armed Forces Recruitment Service (AFRS). Delivered through a partnership of the MOD, Serco, and our consortium of partners, this service provides end-to-end support from candidate attraction to assessment, onboarding, and Phase 1 training. Main responsibilities of the role:
1. Provide leadership and mentorship in Agile processes and delivery.
2. Support teams with prioritization and management of the sprint backlog to ensure timely and accurate product delivery.
3. Assist the product owner in managing the product backlog effectively and aligning it for upcoming sprints.
4. Create a supportive, creative, and safe development environment that fosters collaboration.
5. Build a trusting environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, emphasizing resolution and problem-solving.
6. Provide guidance, coaching, and support for successful delivery.
7. Help proactively remove obstacles encountered by teams or individuals.
8. Lead Scrum meetings and support sprint planning and execution.
9. Ensure agile principles are clearly understood and followed.
10. Maintain good relationships between the product team, product owner, stakeholders, and the wider business.
11. Coordinate effectively across all roles involved in product delivery.
12. Clarify delivery expectations and ensure team accountability.
13. Facilitate continuous improvement within the DevOps team to enhance delivery and service quality.
What you'll need:
1. Scrum Master certification or relevant Agile project experience.
2. Significant experience as a Scrum Master.
3. Knowledge of agile methodologies and frameworks like Scrum and Kanban.
4. Familiarity with software development practices and service-oriented environments.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
6. Ability to achieve SC clearance upon appointment.
