Job Summary IPSD-M has an opening for a Computer Aided Engineering Manager located in the United Kingdom primarily working from our Peterborough Campus. The Computer aided Engineering team (CAE) team are responsible for the majority of Virtual Product Development (VPD) activities that support engine design and development: - Structural Analysis - FEA - statics and dynamics relevant to engines and powertrains, Fatigue modelling, Multi-body dynamics - Thermofluids Analysis - CFD - single and multiphase flows relevant to engines and aftertreatment, combustion modelling, 1D engine cycle simulation - VPD tools and processes - own and develop key software specific to engine simulation, manage simulation lifecycle data, develop democratized simulation tools CAE is a vital part of our VPD framework and Caterpillar and the UK team have a long history of simulation-driven product development, on both products under our design control and providing center-of-excellence support to other Caterpillar divisions as well as external customers. What You Will Do The CAE Manager will report into the Systems Engineering Manger and have direct supervision of both Senior Engineering Specialists, and Team Leaders who lead the day to day simulation activities and resources. The team extends beyond Peterborough and leverages Caterpillars global simulation footprint. As a leader you will be expected to influence the future vision for simulation and VPD at Caterpillar, and play an active role in corporate VPD steering teams. As part of the local engineering leadership team you will champion our Lean initiatives and demonstrate our values in action. As well as being accountable for simulation led engineering guidance, managing the team and resources, you will also manage spend on High Performance Computing and VPD specific software licenses. The successful applicant will work as part of a cross functional technical leadership team, collaborating with partners in Systems, Component, Performance and Electronics, to deliver world class products. What You Have Leadership Attributes - Experience of leading a sizable team or department (30-50 professional engineers) - A proven leader of leaders who can help others develop and grow as part of their own leadership journey - Annual budgeting and forecasting experience - people resources and supporting services - Ability to develop team vision and strategy that aligns to enterprise level view and align with other key process partners - Ability to interact with other leaders and resolve product development challenges (time, cost, quality) Effective Communications - Able to engage and provide clarity to a global workgroup, showing awareness of different cultural and individual needs - High standard of written and verbal communication Technical Excellence - 15 years of product development experience, preferably in IC engines or associated industry (eg Automotive) - In-depth experience of simulation is desirable but not essential - Experience of the use of simulation and VPD as part of the product development process is essential, as is an understanding of the limitations of simulation What You Will Get We look forward to welcoming the successful candidate to our dynamic, diverse and friendly team.
