About the role:
The British Museum is at an exciting phase of its technical development with many older legacy systems currently being updated with new technologies. This brings many opportunities for development, but also many changes and challenges. We are looking for an internal consultant to run the replacement of the Museum’s HR system as well as support the Museum’s wider digital and technology transformation programme. You will play an essential role by identifying business challenges, outlining opportunities, redesigning internal processes, and sourcing new technologies.
You will work across the Museum to:
1. Understand existing business needs and individual stakeholder requirements through discovery exercises, workshops, and stakeholder engagement.
2. Document findings in report papers that clearly articulate existing challenges, scope of the project, objectives, options analysis, and recommendations.
3. Engage with wider market and technology suppliers, test solutions, support procurement processes, and make final recommendations.
Experience procuring, sourcing, and implementing HR systems for large organisations is highly preferable, though not mandatory. However, an understanding of implementing IT systems is required.
This is a unique opportunity to deliver change to one of the world’s most iconic and valuable cultural heritage institutions and be part of a community of people passionate about the values of the Museum and its 260-year legacy of providing free access to the history of the world.
About you:
We are seeking a passionate and driven problem solver who will thrive in a complex and dynamic working environment.
You will be highly organised with the ability to manage several ongoing projects in tandem. You should be able to work with numerous stakeholders to plan and manage resources.
You will have demonstrated ability to manage conflicting timelines and work on multiple projects to meet deadlines.
You will have excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing. You will be able to clearly articulate existing business challenges, findings, and recommendations through written reports and oral presentations.
Ability to establish relationships and work effectively across all levels of the organisation. The ideal candidate will also have experience working across different parts of large organisations, translating technical requirements into business needs.
Demonstrated sensitivity and the ability to carefully evaluate and balance, sometimes conflicting, needs of Museum departments against the overall strategy.
Have an inquisitive mindset. The ideal candidate will be naturally curious with a passion for understanding how the organisation works and the ability to design new and improved processes.
Have experience working with IT, notably with HR systems and processes.
Interest in history, arts, and culture is a plus. The British Museum is an exciting place to work, and we incentivise all our staff to take full advantage of their access.
