Located in Newport, UK, the Severn Power Station stands as a vital hub of energy production, harnessing the power of its surroundings to generate 823 MW of electricity. Equipped with two units of SGT5-4000F gas turbines and SST5-5000 steam turbines, it epitomises the pinnacle of gas-fired Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) technology. Serving as a cornerstone of the local energy infrastructure, it ensures a reliable and sustainable power supply for the region. About the Role – General Summary The Electrical Technician is critically tasked with ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of essential electrical assets such as motors, switchgear, transformers, UPS emergency power systems, and electrical protection systems through regular maintenance and repair. They oversee the safe operation and troubleshooting of high voltage (HV) systems, proactively addressing issues to maintain continuous power plant operations. Key Duties and Responsibilities Perform routine maintenance and repair of electrical assets such as motors, switchgear, transformers, UPS emergency power systems, and electrical protection systems to ensure their optimal performance and reliability. Oversee the safe operation, testing, and troubleshooting of high voltage (HV) systems to ensure system integrity and prevent failures. Address HV system issues proactively to maintain continuous power plant operations. Assist in the maintenance and troubleshooting of modern Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Siemens S7 PLCs, automatic fire detection systems, and various process instrumentation (temperature, pressure, flow) to ensure smooth and efficient plant operations. Conduct inspections and maintenance in ATEX (Atmospheric Explosive) areas, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations, and leveraging CompEX qualification if available. Diagnose systems and equipment problems. Execute routine and non-routine maintenance activities in accordance with agreed procedures and operational requirements to ensure the plant is operating safely, effectively, and efficiently. Ensure safe working practices and procedures are adhered to within the work area. Investigate complex technical problems relating to critical plant operations.
