Job overview
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a full-time Clinical Research Fellow in Gastroenterology for a fixed term period of 12 months from August 2025.
The clinical duties of this post will be based predominantly at the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (NSECH); with cross site working including elective sessions at Wansbeck General Hospital (WGH), North Tyneside General Hospital (NTGH) and Hexham General Hospital (HGH).
The successful candidate will be given full training in the wide spectrum of Gastroenterology, both on our acute Gastroenterology inpatient wards and in a wide range of outpatient clinics.
You will be encouraged over the course of the year to develop your skills at Specialty Trainee level. You will participate in the provision of outpatient services and Gastroenterology procedures as well as taking a role in the current rota for NSECH.
The post will be based at North Tyneside General Hospital with outpatient and diagnostic commitments Trustwide; as such the post holder may be required to work at other sites within the Trust.
If the successful appointee has over four years post qualification experience, they will be appointed on Specialty Doctor 2021 Terms and Conditions.
Main duties of the job
A typical week would consist of:
* Inpatient care on the Gastroenterology wards at NSECH and NTGH
* Gastroenterology outpatient clinics at NTGH, WGH and HGH
* Admin and audit: Regional teaching plus monthly SpR teaching
* Opportunity to attend Endoscopy Lists and other Gastroenterology learning opportunities

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post will be flexibly timetabled to meet the demands of the service and the timing of sessions may change as the service develops. There is no out of hours working associated with this post.
