Gardener required
Dodington Park Estate is on the boundary between South Gloucestershire and the county of Bristol balanced on the Cotswold Escarpment. At the centre of the estate is Dodington House, an 18th Century Georgian mansion which is currently being used as a private home.
We are looking for a Gardener to join an established team of 9. When you come to work at Dodington Park, you’ll be joining a team of dedicated employees who work towards the renovation and maintenance of the house and surrounding estate, where we always strive to achieve the highest possible standards of work and craftsmanship.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Work with the Gardens team to achieve the highest standards of horticulture to help ensure that the gardens are beautifully presented and maintained.
2. Grass care and maintenance / lawn mowing.
3. Propagation, growing and maintenance of greenhouse and container plants.
4. Planting and maintenance of seasonal displays.
5. Weeding.
6. Watering plants (including some weekend watering, on a rota system).
7. Plant feeding.
8. Pruning, including roses and climbers.
9. Training and staking of plants.
10. Spraying – pest, disease and weed control.
11. Integrated pest management.
12. Picking and harvesting.
13. Leaf clearance.
14. Hedge maintenance and topiary.
15. Care of house plants and orangery plants.
16. Helping organise deliveries.
17. General garden maintenance.
18. Involvement in additional garden projects, as directed by the Gardens Manager.
Person Specification / Core Competencies:
1. Gardener/horticulturalist with wide range of experience in high-quality settings, including the tasks listed above.
2. Relevant qualifications desirable (e.g. RHS level 2 and/or Diploma or higher – or equivalent).
3. Good plant knowledge.
4. Keen eye for detail.
5. Appreciation and understanding of colour and form in the garden is essential.
6. Able to work in a tidy, safe manner and maintain tools and equipment and garden machinery.
7. Confident communication skills, with the ability to interact with different individuals.
8. Excellent organisational skills.
9. Professional manner.
10. Proactive and flexible approach to work.
11. Many tasks are physically demanding and carried out in all weathers.
12. Willing to take responsibility and ownership for tasks and garden areas.
13. Strong sense of discretion, appreciating the confidentiality of the work.
14. Ability to work autonomously, whilst possessing strong teamwork skills.
15. Computer literate.
16. Driving license.
