Job summary We are looking for a General Practice Assistant to be the on the day first contact clinicians' support assistant, ensuring the smooth running of clinics by performing the more routine administration and clinical tasks on behalf of the GP freeing up their time to focus on the patient. This could be to take simple observations from the patient, such as blood pressure; or to carry out an ECG or phlebotomy. Acting under the full guidance and instruction of the clinician, they may then request that you seek advice and guidance from the specialist service or that you send off a referral to the hospital. The role will also require you to help support other administration functions on a timely basis, according to the need of the patient. Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc. Explaining treatment procedures to patients. Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g. getting an on call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s).
