The Assistant Botanical Buyer / Blender will focus on gaining experience, knowledge and skills in the purchasing of botanicals, including quality assessment of raw materials and supporting the development of new & existing sustainable sources of supply in line with our Sourced with Care program.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop organoleptic skills across all botanical raw materials to build your knowledge and comprehensive understanding in the delivery of the blending and company strategy.
* Assist in performing quality control checks on all processed and packed products and understand the blending & packing process at Twinings.
* Support the review of blend formulae, ensuring optimum recipes for quality, compliance and value are maintained for the business.
* Assist in key reports, for example on competitors’ products (in collaboration with NPD) and financial / other numerical reports on weekly, monthly and annual basis.
* Develop up-to-date networks with all relevant stakeholders internal and external.
* Develop knowledge of infusions and tea, including, growers, cultivation, manufacture, buying options, shipping and logistics, processing, warehousing and transport to Twinings Supply Centres.
* Develop a knowledge of individual botanical origin markets and interpret associated data.
* Develop negotiating skills under instructions from buyers.
* Develop knowledge of the need for compliance to EU & Global regulations specific to the botanical industry.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
* Although no formal experience is essential, buying experience and 1-2 years commercial experience is desirable.
* You will have ideally worked in an FMCG organisation with Quality control experience.
* You will ideally have a degree-level education, but a minimum of A level standard or equivalent (additional relevant experience required for A level standard education).
* You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a commercial focus.
* You will be willing to undertake extended periods of overseas travel to producing countries.
