THE BUSINESS
Westray Recruitment Group is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to work for our client based in Gateshead. You will form part of a close-knit team working for an organisation with a growth ethos. The client based for this company is broad and they produce panels to serve sectors such as Food, Manufacturing, Renewables, Oil & Gas, Substations and General Manufacturing. The control panels are used to run machines & equipment in terms of speed, pressure, temperature, heat, etc.
The client is seeking someone who can essentially design an electrical control panel from scratch using customer specifications.
THE ROLE
Accurate understanding of customer requirements, specifications, designs, and drawings
Preparation and delivery of quotes to clients
Acting as the primary contact for customers regarding quotes and their projects
Ensuring the correct and safe design of low voltage control systems
Overseeing specification management and bill of materials
Creating and drafting engineering drawings, including schematics, layouts, and harnesses
Developing and managing engineering documentation, such as calculations, assessments, manuals, and specifications, as well as technical reports and certifications when needed
Collaborating with broader teams to address issues and complete projects
Participating in production meetings, assisting with commissioning, and providing remote site support
Ensuring the quality of work throughout the process
Conducting site visits and inspections for projects, upgrades, and modifications as necessary
Organizing and prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines and organizational goals
Maintaining up-to-date and relevant knowledge and skills
Using expertise and experience to contribute to continuous improvement efforts
Completing tasks thoroughly and ensuring no loose ends remain
THE PERSON
Essential
Achieving at least an IEng level
At least 5 years of experience in designing industrial electrical control systems
A minimum of 5 years working with industrial control panels, preferably for heavy-industrial machinery
Over 5 years of experience using an electrical CAD software for drafting and drawing
At least 3 years in a customer-facing role
At least 3 years of experience in producing quotes
Proficient in specifying components to fulfil design requirements
Skilled in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and diagrams
Capable of creating technical and engineering documentation, including technical writing
Understanding and experience with machinery control systems
Ability to collaborate effectively with wiremen, commissioning engineers, site engineers, management, and the wider team
Proficient in using the MS365 suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
Holds a Level 3 engineering or technical qualification or has equivalent experience
Possesses appropriate engineering/electrical experience and training, such as an apprenticeship or relevant experience
Desirable/Advantageous
Professional registration with the Engineering Council as IEng or CEng
Experience with PLC software, including writing and commissioning
Experience or qualifications in Functional Safety
Experience with wiring or site installations
Experience in commissioning systems or machinery
Understanding and appreciation of mechanical engineering
Holds an HNC or degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
